Job Overview


We're looking for a motivated

Junior Pastry Chef / Cook / Kitchen Hand

to support our pastry and kitchen operations. You'll assist with prep, baking, finishing, packaging, and general kitchen duties while learning professional standards for quality, consistency, and food safety.

Responsibilities



Assist in producing cakes, pastries, cookies, and desserts following established recipes and portioning. Perform basic finishing and

simple cake/pastry decoration

(piping, glazing, garnishing) under supervision. Handle daily mise en place: measuring, mixing, scaling, doughs/batters, fillings, creams. Support hot/cold kitchen prep as needed (basic cooking, station setup, labeling). Maintain

clean, organized

work areas; complete dishwashing, equipment cleaning, and closing checklists. Follow

food safety and allergen protocols

; date/label, rotate stock (FIFO), record temps.

Package and label

finished products for display/retail; ensure attractive presentation. Help with inventory counts, deliveries, and storing ingredients. Collaborate with the team on new items and seasonal specials; take direction and apply feedback.

Skills & Qualifications



Some experience in a bakery/pastry or restaurant kitchen

preferred

(co-op/school projects count). Basic skills in baking and pastry prep;

interest in developing cake-decorating

techniques. Strong attention to detail, consistency, and cleanliness. Knowledge of safe food-handling practices; Food Handler certification is an asset. Positive attitude,

team player

, reliable and punctual; able to work efficiently under pressure. Comfortable with physical work: standing for long periods; lifting up to 25-40 lb.

Schedule flexibility

(early mornings, weekends, holidays as required).
