Landscape Construction Lead Hand

Position:

Permanent, full-time
Start Date: As soon as possible
Hours: Typically, 7:00 am to 3:30 pm, Monday to Friday (may vary by project)
Pay: $26-32 per hour, based on skills and experience

Role Overview:

As a Lead Hand, you will support the Foreman by leading a small crew, ensuring quality workmanship, and helping keep projects on schedule. You'll work hands-on alongside the crew while guiding and mentoring less experienced labourers.

Job Duties:

Construct a variety of landscape structures including water features, retaining walls, fences, and paths Assist the Foreman by occasionally managing a crew of 2-4 workers Operate tools and equipment such as cut-off saws, jackhammers, skid steers, excavators, and drills Move and transport building materials using hand tools, wheelbarrows, and machinery Perform daily maintenance on tools and equipment Support snow removal during winter months Collaborate closely with the Foreman to ensure efficient, timely project completion

Essential Skills and Requirements:

Minimum 2 years of landscape construction experience, especially hardscape (stone, concrete, pavers, wall systems) At least 1 year experience operating skid steers and excavators Ability to read and understand landscape construction plans Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail Physically fit to perform heavy lifting and strenuous activity (lifting 50+ lbs regularly) Valid Class 5 driver's licence with a clean driver's abstract Fluent in English Has a reliable vehicle (you must be able to get yourself to job sites across Metro Vancouver)

Assets:

Experience operating trucks with trailers Experience calculating material quantities for daily tasks
This position is predominantly outdoors and requires individuals who are comfortable working in various weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and direct sunlight. The work involves extended periods of standing, walking, lifting, or performing tasks outside on a daily basis. Applicants should be prepared for a physically active role and must be able to perform job duties in an outdoor environment year-round.
