Nature and Scope
Reporting to the Sous Chef, the Junior Cook supports the preparation and service of high-quality, nutritious meals for residents and guests. As an entry-level or developing cook, this role assists in basic food preparation, cooking, and plating, working under the guidance of the Sous Chef and Cuisiniers. The Junior Cook helps ensure food safety standards, maintains cleanliness in the kitchen, and contributes to a positive, team-based environment.
Operational Responsibilities
Always promotes a safe work environment
Assist with basic preparation of menu items under supervision
Set up and stock workstations and ensure proper mise en place
Perform basic cooking tasks (e.g., chopping, mixing, portioning, reheating)
Assist in plating and presenting dishes according to established standards
Maintain cleanliness and organization of assigned work area
Follow all food safety, sanitation, and hygiene guidelines
Rotate inventory and assist with receiving and storing deliveries
Communicate effectively with the Sous Chef, Cuisiniers, and front-of-house staff
Participate in ongoing training and skill development
Assist with cleaning and closing duties as assigned Prerequisites Formal Education or Training
Culinary diploma or equivalent relevant experience
Experience
Minimum 2-3 years of cooking experience in a commercial kitchen
Experience working across multiple stations preferred
Prior experience in senior living, healthcare, or hospitality
Skills / Knowledge
Basic cooking and food preparation skills
Good understanding of safe food handling practices
Eagerness to learn and develop culinary skills
Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as scheduled
Certifications / Licenses
Current Safe Food Handlers certificate
HACCP, WHMIS
CPR and first aid training
Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
Pay: $18.40 per hour
Expected hours: 35 - 40 per week
