I. Scope and Summary of Primary Responsibilities


The Junior Camp Counsellor is a supportive, entry-level role focused on assisting Camp Counsellors and program staff in the delivery of accessible, inclusive programming for all guests (children, youth, adults, seniors, and families). This role is designed for youth staff who are developing foundational skills in camper care, communication, and inclusive recreation. The Junior Camp Counsellor supports guest experience and camper safety


while working under the direct supervision of Camp Counsellors, Senior Counsellors, and Section Heads.


Specializations:Sports and Adventure (Multi-sport, Hockey, Climbing, Tripping) Arts and Special Programs(Visual Arts, Music, Drama, Events, Pop-up Programs)

II. Essential Functions

The position entails, but is not limited to the following general responsibilities:

Energetically and inclusively support the facilitation of assigned programs byassistingCamp Counsellors with activity set-up, participant engagement, and transitions Assist guests by taking an active role in all dining room duties, including serving meals, meal set up and clean up Provide support and guidance to volunteers, guests, and visitors. Support program area set-up and cleaning, ensuring equipment and materials are organized and ready for use. Report equipment issues or low supplies to the appropriate Camp Counsellor or Section Head. Participate in facilitation of off-site programs as required. On a rotational basis, be part of the Emergency Response Team, which includes being on call, present onsite, and available to respond to emergencies. Promote and encourage participation in programs through endorsement of activities to guests. Immediately report any incidents, concerns, or participant needs to supervising staff Maintain documentation of any accidents or incidents and provide this documentation to the appropriate leadership member. During youth weeks: Camp Counsellors will be responsible for the health and safety of campers while in our care. Camp counsellors will be assigned to a camper group and as a team, will be responsible for ensuring the overall mental, physical and emotional well-being of campers. Work as a team member, taking on other areas of responsibility as needed. Other duties as assigned

III. Qualifications

Knowledge and Skill Requirements

Strong interpersonal skills, including patience, empathy, and communication. Ability to follow direction and work within defined role boundaries Commitment to guest safety and positive camper experience Willingness to learn inclusive practices for supporting guests with sight loss Current (within 6 months of start date) Vulnerable Sector Police Record Check. For candidates under the age of 18, a Statutory Declaration must be signed in lieu of a Police Check. Current Standard First Aid and CPR "C" Ability to work flexible hours in a changing and busy environment and work outside for an extended period of time. Personal or professional experience relating to blindness and sight loss is considered an asset Personal or professional experience working with assistive technology and/or accessible environments is considered an asset

Experience and Education

Completion of a CIT program or equivalent experience is an asset Experience in camp or other recreation programs preferred A combination of relevant education and experience will be considered

Work Environment

Outdoor work is required in this position. Working outdoors may include exposure to weather, sun, and heat exposure. May require moderate levels of physical exertion. Respects the importance of confidential information while effectively functioning as a team member or working independently. This position may require working occasional overtime/flex time. Ability to work flexible hours in a dynamic and busy environment, with frequent interruptions. Must reside at CNIB Lake Joe during operational season and be willing to share accommodations with other staff members.
