Position Overview

The Junior Asset Management Engineer, through relevant experience and competencies, provides support to the Regional Engineers for each zone of FortisBC Operations. This position is responsible to provide engineering oversight to capital sustainment and improvement processes to maintain asset performance economically, safely and reliably.

In this role, you will:

  • Coordinate the assessment of assets to measure and assess the exposure of operating assets against safety, reliability, environmental and financial risks. Identify and initiate asset-specific feasibility studies for improvement or replacement of assets based on life cycle costs.
  • Participate in specific phases of engineering assignments and activities, ensuring best practice methodology and related tools are utilized. Investigate, evaluate and prepare cost estimates including capital and maintenance budgets, schedules and related documentation for assigned projects.
  • Support enhancements and process re-design projects including concept, business case and CPCN development. Prepare and submit requests for approval of capital projects in accordance with established processes and procedures.
  • Collaborate with the leadership team related to project assessment, definitions and cost estimating, including short and long term budget proposals, regulatory requirements; monitor project expenditures and investigate variances from approved budget. Prepare year end forecasts for capital work.
What it takes:
  • A bachelor\'s degree in Engineering (preferred Mechanical, Chemical or Civil) from an accredited Institute, plus two to five (2-5) years of experience in the development, design, construction and/or operation of natural gas energy pipelines and related infrastructure, or related experience including facility and/or plant piping design.
  • Registered or eligible to be registered as an EIT with EGBC.
  • A team player that is able to interact harmoniously with a diverse internal and external stakeholder group.
  • Knowledge of life cycle costing analysis to support asset repair and replace decisions.
  • Knowledge of the design and construction of distribution system assets, including pipelines, pressure control, measurement stations and cathodic protection systems.
