POSITION: Internal Communications Specialist
STATUS: Permanent; Full-Time
SHIFT: 35 hours per week
LOCATION: Provincial Office - Vancouver, BC
CLASSIFICATION: Exempt
WAGE: Salaried

About the Position:
Reporting to the Chief Communications Officer, this position is primarily focused on internal communication strategies and processes that improve employee and volunteer\xe2\x80\x99s knowledge and understanding about the Society\xe2\x80\x99s strategic vision and goals, support change management, and promote a culture of trust and engagement through the open flow of communication.

Some specific duties:

  • In conjunction with the Chief Communications Officer and other key leaders, develops and implements an internal communications plan in support of the Society\xe2\x80\x99s Strategic Plan and day-to-day operational requirements.
  • Works with leaders to ensure that internal stakeholders are appropriately considered in the drafting of communication plans around organizational initiatives, programs, and projects.
  • Creates templates and considerations to make this process consistent and streamlined across the organization.
  • Works with leaders to ensure that communications plans related to changes are successfully carried out at established intervals throughout the change.
  • Identifies any areas of concern and works with appropriate parties to remedy, including providing specific suggestions to address any opportunities/challenges encountered.
  • In conjunction with the Chief Communications Officer and the Senior Director of Information Technology, identifies key channels that best support the flow of communication within, and between, BC SPCA departments and locations across the province.
  • Supports staff and volunteers in the use of these channels, including creating/maintaining written resources and/or creating training modules/opportunities as required.
  • Takes an active role in the organization and delivery of organizational communication mechanisms such as the All Staff meetings, the Staff Portal, Staff Bulletins, internal-facing annual reporting, volunteer newsletters, etc.
  • Ensures internal communications messages have a consistent look and feel across all mediums and for different departments of the Society by ensuring the creation and accessibility of branded templates, etc.
  • Produces stories and other content in a variety of mediums that support the internal communications goals of the Society.
  • Provides input into the creation of measures for success of internal communications functions and provides reports on progress, as required.
  • May be asked to sit on various committees and provide input/best practice considerations, as required.
  • Assists with general content creation within the Communications Department, as required.
  • Performs other duties, as required.
Qualifications you need to have:
  • Degree in Communications or related field plus a minimum of 3-5 years\xe2\x80\x99 relevant experience; or a combination of education and experience acceptable to the employer. Relevant experience includes, but is not limited to:
  • Communications focused on an internal-facing audience, including volunteers
  • The creation of written and digital content
  • Using Microsoft Teams, staff intranet systems, and other communications-related technology
  • Working in the non-profit sector
  • Knowledge of and experience in developing internal communications plans to meet the information needs of a diverse workforce
  • Knowledge of change management principles and diversity, equity and inclusion concepts/best practices
  • Knowledge of internal Communications strategy.
  • Experience with modern intranet platforms such as WordPress, SharePoint and other cloud-based internal communications tools
  • Superb interpersonal skills, particularly with reference to managing professional relationships
  • Strong teamwork skills and work ethic
  • Problem-solving, critical thinking, and systems thinking skills
  • Excellent organizational skills coupled with the ability to multi-task while paying attention to detail
  • Demonstrated ability to compile data and create content for a wide variety of audiences
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; proven ability to communicate respectfully to a diverse audience
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently under minimal supervision, as well as part of a team
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, planning and prioritizing a varied workload in order to meet fixed deadlines
  • Ability to work flexible hours (i.e. occasional evening and weekends), when required
  • Photography and video skills would be an asset.
