Prasad & Company LLP is seeking Intermediate Tax Accountant to join our team.

Intermediate Tax Accountants are mentored by senior tax accountants and assist/provide support for tax engagements. This is ideal for a professional looking to specialize in tax.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage assigned tax projects to ensure they are filed/completed by the due date. Projects may include T1, T2 NIL, T2, T3, T4, T5, T1134, and T1135.
  • Conduct research and revise organizational charts for Tax Reorg projects as requested.
  • Assist in CRA Tax Audit projects as assigned.
  • Review Canadian tax engagements including the completion of corporate tax provisions and returns, year- end tax forms (T4s/T5s), calculating and reviewing share capital, and ensuring compliance with government standards.
  • Complete research and participate in meetings to advise clients on corporate reorganizations for tax purposes including tax free rollovers, engagement planning, the collection of data, the development of step plans.
  • Review personal tax returns with clients.
  • Participate in the review of legal documents such as corporate minute books, articles of incorporation, purchase agreements and amalgamation agreements to identify tax issues and opportunities.
  • Correspond with clients and various government agencies to address tax compliance issues.
  • Prepare correspondence, technical reports, client summaries and presentations outlining findings, facts, and highlights resulting from the client engagement.
  • Investigate and correct discrepancies/ irregularities in financial entries, documents, and reports.
  • Apply knowledge of the Canadian Income Tax Act and related legislation to assigned project.
  • Identify tax opportunities and develop and implement tax strategies.
  • Maintain high-quality control by reviewing tax returns and other work done from other team members for accuracy and completeness; provide feedback to team members.
  • Monitor project timelines against targets, adjust where necessary; advise clients of project status and seek clarification on discrepancies where applicable.
  • Contribute to the development of new ideas and approaches to improve work processes.
  • Assist with the training and development of junior team members.
  • Participate in weekly tax meetings and collaborate with the Tax Team to achieve deliverables.
  • Liaise and correspond professionally with clients, colleagues, and the firm leadership team.

Skills and Requirements:
  • Advanced knowledge of the Canadian Income Tax Act, CAS, and Canadian Review Standards.
  • Minimum 2-years of experience preparing personal, partnership, and corporate tax files.
  • Professional and clear communication skills; verbal and written.
  • Willingness to enroll in the Tax In-depth Program.
  • Experience in completing US Tax filing is an asset.
  • Excellent organization and time management skills.
  • Ability to exercise flexibility, initiative, good judgement / discretion, and strong attention to detail.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with Tax Cycle, CaseWare, and Jazz IT.
  • Ability to effectively work under pressure and handle stressful situations.
  • Post-secondary education in accounting, or finance is required or equivalent related experience.
  • Must be able to work longer/extended hours in March and April, which may include some weekends.
