The Position: Under the direction of the Manager, IT Operations and Program Management, the Information
Technology (IT) Technician provides day-to-day hardware and software end-user support for various applications, maintains the Institute\xe2\x80\x99s Web site, and maintains end-user security across our systems. What can I expect to do in this role? Major responsibilities include:
  • Provide user support to staff and members in relation to computer hardware and software.
  • Advise staff on the use of hardware and software and provide suggestions on various computer applications and procedures to follow to prevent computer problems.
  • Logs, monitors, updates and escalates issues using the service desk application.
  • Research, test, install and configure new hardware and software including laptops, telephones, printers, communications cables, and other related equipment.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot common network and Novell Netware-related problems.
  • Download and apply relevant upgrades/patches for network and PC-based software applications and utilities.
  • Set up accounts for users with authentication software (Novell, etc), Oracle, e-mail systems and other applications; maintain existing accounts; and maintain hardware, software, asset, inventory and user accounts databases.
  • Assist IT team members with day-to-day technology tasks.
  • Maintain and update the Institute Web site using the web content publishing engine and develop Web prototype pages.
  • Participate in multi-disciplinary teams assigned to special projects and work collaboratively with team members and employees in other sections.
  • Provide technical support for member meetings as required.
How do I qualify? The successful candidate possesses:
  • Post secondary education in computer technology.
  • One (1) to two (2) years\xe2\x80\x99 experience in installing, testing, configuring, implementing, and troubleshooting a wide range of computer hardware and applications; equivalencies will be considered.
  • Proficiency in both official languages is considered an asset.
Required Knowledge and Experience:
  • Experience with or knowledge of ITIL practices in an IT Operations environment preferred.
  • ServiceNow experience is an asset.
  • Demonstrated strong communication skills (verbal and written); ability to provide clear, detailed written instructions to users to avoid and resolve hardware or software problems.
  • Customer service orientated; ability to effectively work with staff and members at all levels with a varying range of technical skills and provide effective end-user support.
  • Ability to recognize, analyze and resolve hardware and software problems.
  • Demonstrated experience with computer hardware and peripheral equipment to recommend, test, configure, install, maintain and repair.
  • Demonstrated experience using device management and imaging software, software installation, maintenance and troubleshooting, web postings, and web page design, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of various computer software, strong knowledge of the Internet, e-mail applications (esp. Google), intranets and cloud-based software solutions
  • Knowledge of the Institute\xe2\x80\x99s Web posting procedures
  • Knowledge of Local Area Networks and authentication software including Novell.
  • Thorough knowledge of the Professional Institute\xe2\x80\x99s organization and structure.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
Salary and Benefits:
  • Permanent, full-time position (35 hours per week)
  • Salary range: $58,410 to $73,012 (G3)
