Reporting to and in coordination with the Head of Global Mobility and Immigration, the Immigration Manager is responsible for providing advice and information to employees, managers and decision-makers about visas, work permits and permanent residency requirements and legal issues. They are responsible for the team of Canadian immigration specialists in charge of work permit applications, work permit renewals, and visa applications. The Immigration Manager will also support permanent residency initiatives, including supporting employees through provincial programs.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Quickly master the preparation and submission process for immigration applications and the Employee Data Management System.
  • Act as the key point of contact to all employees regarding any immigration issues and questions that arise - this includes internal employees in HR and Recruitment and external employees joining the TCS team.
  • Manage all immigration data, including candidates in progress, the status of permits, and government issues and prepare summary reports to review and discuss with senior management
  • Establish suitability of candidates and provide advice and instructions for employees joining TCS on work permits and visas
  • Provide regular follow-up on inquiries received
  • Interact and maintain communication with government representatives and third-party lobbyists on immigration matters
  • Provide advice on visas and prepare supporting letters for business travels between TCS affiliate sites
  • Give direction to the Immigration Experts and Advisors to ensure tasks are completed correctly.
  • Verify and approve application forms and supporting documents prepared by applicants and/or immigration team members
  • Communicate with applicants and stakeholders, including government authorities (requests, emails, letters)
  • Monitor and control case processing deadlines
  • Prepare and distribute regular Start Date and Workload reports
  • Monitor for immigration compliance issues
  • Ensure that the Immigration Team is providing a high level of client service
  • After-hours senior immigration advisor (on-call)
  • Provide immigration policy and procedural guidance to HR managers and other stakeholders
  • Plan and prioritize work related to applications
  • Identify and report workload issues
  • Coordinate with the external law firm the processing of applications for permanent and temporary residence (if applicable)
  • Proactively monitor any changes to the Federal and Provincial Canadian Immigration regulations, processes and programs, and provide recommendations
  • Prepare and submit applications for work permits, study permits, temporary resident visas, provincial nominee or Quebec selection certificates and permanent resident visas.
Qualifications

Technical Knowledge/Skills
  • Fluent in English and French, written communication and high-level analysis abilities
  • Must be a member of the Barreau du Quebec, or of the College of Immigration and Citizenship Consultants, with accreditation by MIFI
  • Good working knowledge of Excel
  • College or university diploma (or relevant equivalent experience)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of temporary immigration regulations and processes as well as permanent residence.
Experience
  • 5+ years of experience as an Immigration Lawyer or Immigration Consultant (or equivalent relevant experience)
  • Team supervisory/management experience
