Primary Purpose:

The Human Resources Manager role will serve as the primary contact and HR business partner in North America to leaders within the Ontario and Manitoba organizations and will collaborate with colleagues at various sites across business in the delivery of HR support. Functioning as a true Generalist, this position will provide hands-on Human Resources support. Responsibilities will include Employee Relations, Labour Relations, Talent Management, Succession Planning, Performance Management, Training and Development, support Recruitment and more. The successful candidate thrives working in a high volume, high speed, dynamic and changing work environment. HRBP will report to the Director of HR and will support the development, execution and delivery of high-quality human resources programs, policies and procedures. This role provides coaching and mentorship to all leaders to ensure consistency with Univar Solutions values and business goals.

What You\'ll do:

  • Providing guidance and thought partnership to managers and leaders to resolve talent challenges impacting the business (interpreting and applying policies/programs, employee/labor relations, coaching, performance management, development planning, et.al.)
  • Provide professional Labor Relations and HR expertise on all people-related matters, inclusive of managing grievances and participating in union contract negotiations; Build and implement strategies to maintain ongoing communication and positive relationships with the union\'s leadership and handle all aspects of the grievance process, including grievance resolution, mediation, arbitration and or conciliation; support all levels of management to minimize risk on legal and compliance matters, ensuring adherence and interpretation of all relevant legislation, policies and procedures and collective agreements
  • Ensuring the recruitment and onboarding of high-quality talent capable of supporting the short and long-term needs of the business in conjunction with managers and the Talent Acquisition COE team.
  • Conducting succession and talent planning for critical roles and talent segments within the business; Leading the annual performance and talent management processes for assigned client group; Helping leaders develop and implement plans which increase employee engagement and drive retention of critical talent
  • Support DEI efforts and help to move forward initiatives lead by COE
  • Identifying employee engagement opportunities and leading initiatives where required, including the implementation of Employee Engagement Survey Action Plans.

What You\'ll need:

Education/Experience/Training:
  • University Degree (complete) in Business or Human Resources, or a related field, with at least 7 years of previous HR related experience in a Human Resources leadership capacity and generalist work or related HR experience and demonstrated career progression over time.
  • CHRP designation.
  • Ability to partner effectively and credibly with a business leadership team, work as a trusted advisor to the business, an effective team player and link HR support and outcomes to business performance.
  • HR functional knowledge of disciplines such as total rewards, talent acquisition, talent management, employee relations, and compliance/investigations required.
  • Sound knowledge of Human Resources Best Practices and Regulations, including Employment Standards Act, Human Rights Legislation, and other governing bodies across all Provinces.
  • Demonstrated ability to challenge leaders to help drive high quality management decisions and gain commitment
  • Well developed organizational skills with the ability to effectively prioritize and manage multiple projects and stakeholders in a fast paced and demanding environment. A high level of responsiveness and sense of urgency is critical.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with and across multiple levels of the organization
  • Demonstrated ability to leverage data to identify issues and develop solutions.
  • Ability to develop trusted partnerships with business leaders
