HR Generalist

Job Overview:
As the HR Generalist you will collaborate with members of the Human Resources Team to ensure positive and productive relationships between employees and the Leadership teams. They manage various aspects of employee relations, including conflict resolution, policy enforcement, and fostering a positive work environment. The successful candidate will be an independent problem solver who can act with integrity, tact, and empathy while handling complex situations.
This role operates on a full-time, in-office basis from Monday to Friday.
Job Responsibilities:
Stay up to date with changes in employment laws and update policies and procedures accordingly.
Support the team in actioning pending tasks including inbox requests, projects, audits, creating contracts, memos, policy changes, etc.
Provide administrative support in the leave process, including guidance, maintenance, and oversight on the approval and return process.
Ensure all contracts and agreements are up to date and in compliance with legal requirements.
Provide training and guidance to managers and supervisors on employee relations best practices, conflict resolution, and legal compliance.
Participate in training sessions on topics such as workplace conduct, health and safety, diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Support the development and implementation of employee engagement initiatives to promote a positive work culture.
Serve as a point of contact for employees seeking assistance with employee relations matters.
Communicate effectively with employees to address concerns, provide information on policies and procedures, and promote open dialogue.
Maintain accurate records and documentation related to employee relations activities, ensuring compliance with legal requirements.
Prepare reports and analysis on employee relations trends, issues, and outcomes for management review.
Collaborate with HR team members to ensure consistent and equitable application of policies and procedures.
Collaborate with external legal counsel to manage employee relations cases, including disputes, litigation, and regulatory investigations, ensuring alignment with company objectives and legal strategy.
Represent the company in court proceedings, arbitrations, and mediations, providing expert guidance and support to ensure the company's interests are protected and advocated for effectively.
Stay informed about relevant labor codes and regulations, including but not limited to the Employment Standards Act, Labour Relations Code, and collective agreements, and advise management on compliance requirements.
Collaborate with union representatives and internal stakeholders to resolve labor disputes, grievances, and other employee-related issues per legal requirements and organizational policies.
Assist employees with Permanent Residency (PR) and Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) processes.
Conduct investigations into employee complaints or concerns, ensuring fair and impartial outcomes.
Recommend and implement appropriate resolutions to resolve conflicts and maintain a harmonious workplace.
Handle disciplinary actions, including investigations and terminations, in compliance with relevant legislation and company policies.
Develop and implement employee relations policies and procedures to ensure compliance with employment laws and regulations.
Manage WorkSafeBC claims and related documentation for workplace injuries or incidents, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and facilitating timely resolution.
Serve as a liaison between employees, management, and WorkSafeBC representatives to coordinate claim processes, provide the necessary information, and support employees through the claims procesCommunicate with union representatives to address employee concerns, negotiate collective bargaining agreements, and ensure compliance with labor laws and regulations.
Job Requirements:
3-4 years of recent and progressive experience in a mid to senior level Human Resources Role with a focus on Employee Relations.
Bachelor's degree in Human Resources Management, Law, or relevant discipline.
A Workplace Investigations Certificate or similar qualifications are highly preferred.
Relevant training and/or certifications in Employee Relations Specialist in a strong asset.
Strong knowledge of Employment Laws, relevant legislation, and related policies and procedures.
Prior experience working with unions and knowledge of the Labor Code is an asset.
Proven ability to take initiative and work independently.
Proven ability to handle sensitive and confidential information and issues with tact and confidentiality.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
