The Human Resources Generalist provides a key role in the achievement of all regional people related goals. This position requires a strong business acumen to aid in forming internal and external relationships necessary to become a trusted resource to the leadership team.

Reporting to the Regional Vice President, this position will identify opportunities, recommend, develop, and implement solutions to assist their assigned client groups and the organization enhance employee experience. They will ensure the common daily human resources requirements of the regional team are met and will support the people related needs of their assigned client groups, both in terms of strategic initiatives and the day-to-day human resource requirements.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support day to day HR process functions and ensure high-level service is provided to the operations (onboarding, offboarding, pension, benefits, surveys, training, employment letters, PAFs, etc.);
  • Provide recruiting support for the region.
  • Advise on and coordinate termination packages and facilitate termination meetings as required;
  • Coordination of the annual employee engagement survey process including focus groups and action plans;
  • Administer and monitor short-term / long-term disability absences and liaise with group insurance provider
  • Advise regional operational staff / team on Human Resources policies and processes.
  • Partner with managers and supervisors, providing guidance, assistance, and direction on employee relations matters;
  • Deploy National Human Resources initiatives as provided by Corporate People Resources. Act as conduit for information from corporate programs to the assigned client group leadership;
  • Participate in any / all disputes associated with employment matters (i.e. wrongful termination, ESA, human rights, etc.)
  • Lead the development and implementation of appropriate career development plans / initiatives for high potential / high performing talent within client group;
  • Conduct workplace investigations, document, and facilitate corrective outcomes where necessary;
  • Other tasks as may be necessary to support business and people related needs.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
  • A related undergraduate degree or diploma/certificate such as Human Resource Management or Business Administration is considered an asset.
  • CHRP/ CHRL designation would be an asset
  • Industry knowledge / experience can be considered a substitute for education credentials in the correct circumstance.
WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
  • Preferably 3-5 years of experience working in human resources with direct operational support responsibilities.
  • Experience within a highly matrixed organization servicing multiple sectors / industries would be considered a significant asset
SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
  • Solid understanding of employment legislation including applicable Employment Standards Act and the Human Rights Code within Ontario.
  • Experience working within both a union and non-union environment.
  • Ability to draft professional level correspondence.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • Excellent time management, prioritization, and organizational skills.
  • Proven ability to work in a fast-paced environment, and meet deadlines.
