Durham College is seeking a skilled Human Resources professional which exceptional communication and proven client service experience. The Human Resources generalist is responsible for providing a full range of HR support to an assigned client group within the college. The generalist position includes a consultative component in which the incumbent provides guidance to managers, faculty, and staff within their client group as well as an administrative component which includes the preparation of part time contracts, offer letters, as well as benefits administration, and support of the recruitment process. Reporting to the director, Human Resources, this position is one of a four person generalist team that provides backup and support for one another.

The incumbent\xe2\x80\x99s areas of responsibility include providing procedural advice on selection and recruitment ensuring compliance with established recruitment processes, providing recommendations on effective interview processes, and providing guidance to selection committees to ensure the selection of the best qualified candidate; ensuring the accurate and timely completion of onboarding benefits and pension documentation for all three staffing groups; assisting managers in resolution of conflict or performance issues; providing guidance on collective agreements; and, delivering information sessions on a range of HR topics such as support staff performance reviews and job evaluation. In addition, the incumbent will prepare a large volume of employment contracts and offer letters ensuring timeliness, accuracy, and adherence to policy and collective agreements, and will use the HRIS (Banner) to retrieve employee data.

The incumbent will provide expertise to managers in the preparation of position description forms (PDF) and job fact sheets (JFS), evaluate completed PDFs and JFSs, communicate the results of ratings, stay current on arbitration awards, as well as hear and respond to classification grievances, and maintain up to date records of job descriptions.

The successful candidate will have a demonstrated ability to manage a heavy workload while maintaining attention to detail. They will have a proven track record of professionalism and respectful interaction with all colleagues, the ability to build and maintain solid working relationships, to remain calm and focused while under pressure, as well as skills, ability, and experience in conflict resolution. The incumbent will be comfortable ensuring compliance with the provisions of the collective agreements and legislative requirements such as the Ontario Human Rights Code, the Employment Standards Act, and the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act.

Candidates will have a three-year degree or diploma in Human Resources as well a minimum of three years related experience in a human resources focused role, experience in a unionized environment is an asset. Applicants must demonstrate a high degree of proficiency in the use of the Microsoft Office Suite. Familiarity with Banner (HRIS), a CHRP designation or a certificate in alternative dispute resolution would be an asset.
