Job Summary

The Senior Human Resources Generalist at VWR International, part of Avantor, will lead and execute a variety of HR activities and projects to support our Canada-wide client group in achieving our business objectives while nurturing a collaborative and inclusive work environment. Responsibilities include policy development, regulatory compliance, recruitment, employee relations, administrative functions, and support of internal HR programs. The incumbent will support various departments including Operations, Customer Service, Sales and Manufacturing. Our employees are based in Ontario, Quebec, British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. This position will be based out of our Canadian headquarters in Mississauga, ON.

Job Responsibilities

  • Keep current on provincial and/or federal employment legislation/standards to ensure regulatory compliance
  • Assist in development and implementation of HR Canada policies
  • Advise and assist management and employees on HR issues, employment standards, programs, initiatives, benefits, ensuring staff understand any new/updated policies and procedures
  • Provide coaching to managers and employees on performance and/or disciplinary issues, including support and counseling regarding job performance, job-related conflicts, investigations, problem-solving, dispute resolution, etc.
  • Recruitment activities including onboarding, summer student program and providing regional support to recruitment department
  • Coordinate administration of all leave of absence programs and processes including worker compensation for various provinces, disability, maternity/parental, gradual return to work, workplace accommodations
  • Promote and support corporate programs including annual performance evaluations, merit cycle, and professional development resources
  • Benefits Administration, including enrollments, terminations, communications, taxable benefits
  • Review and process termination transactions, including offboarding
  • Perform audit and compliance functions as requested on items such as audit reports verification and payroll information
  • Ensure timely and accurate entries to the HRIS database
  • Assist with HR special projects, as required
  • Work in partnership with the North American HR team and shared services
  • Other duties related to area of expertise, as assigned
Qualifications
  • University Degree, preferably specializing in Human Resources or equivalent
  • 3+ years' experience in a HR Generalist capacity
  • Knowledge of provincial employment-related laws and regulations
  • Strong PC skills and MS Office skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, ability to prioritize and multitask efficiently
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, ability to communicate professionally with all levels of management and company personnel
  • Customer-service oriented mindset and proven ability to work well under pressure
  • CHRP designation is an asset
  • Knowledge of French is an asset
