Overview



The Helping Hands Development Coordinator plays a critical leadership role in addressing food insecurity across the City of Grande Prairie and surrounding region. This individual oversees the daily operations of the food distribution program, coordinates community outreach and donor relations, and ensures the delivery of high-quality support services with compassion and dignity. As a central figure in the organization, the Helping Hands Development Coordinator leads a team of volunteers, manages logistics, facilitates community partnerships, and provides essential program and asset management support to the executive team.

Responsibilities



Complete oversight of the Helping Hands daily activities. Lead and manage the intake, planning, and execution of food distribution. Review food security applications, schedule fulfillment, and coordinate with recipients for pickup. Work closely with the Executive Team to address departmental issues/challenges and participate in future planning. Supervise and schedule volunteers for hamper packing, shopping, delivery, and seasonal needs. Be involved in strategic planning. Ensure a high level of confidentiality is maintained by ensuring proper information is obtained, filed, and kept confidential. Establish program budgets, track expenditures, and ensure compliance with funder requirements and organizational policies. Maintain strong, respectful communication with clients to ensure service delivery with dignity and cultural sensitivity. Lead community outreach efforts, engaging donors and raising awareness around food insecurity. Post on social media for donation requests, donor recognition, and program awareness. Monitor and respond to social media messages regarding volunteerism, donations, and applications. Actively recruit and onboard volunteers and volunteer groups, conduct orientation and provide ongoing support. Partake in organization and implementation of Food Banks Canada Standards Accreditation process. Make appropriate referrals to other community resources and agencies. Maintain relationships with our community resource partners. Accept and track donations, ensuring proper acknowledgment and record-keeping. Maintain a professional, friendly and dignified nature with all client and community interactions. Address and resolve operational issues swiftly and effectively. Other duties as required.

Experience



Social Work Diploma or Degree would be an asset. Commitment to reducing food insecurity and supporting vulnerable community members. Demonstrate strong leadership, management and organizational skills Demonstrated experience in human services, social work, or nonprofit program delivery. Comfortable and experienced working with diverse populations, including those affected by homelessness, substance use, mental health issues, and systemic marginalization. Strong leadership and coaching capabilities, with the ability to manage a high-performing volunteer team. Effective communication, conflict resolution, and stakeholder engagement skills. Exceptional organizational and time-management abilities; able to balance multiple priorities. Strategic thinker with strong problem-solving and decision-making skills. High level of proficiency with data management tools and technology (Microsoft Office, Teams, inventory systems). Professional demeanor with attention to confidentiality, accountability, and operational excellence.
The position is Monday - Friday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm with a half hour for lunch. There may be occasional evening work, to meet the needs of the community. There may be daily interactions with individuals experiencing mental health, addictions, and other vulnerable populations. There will be daily and monthly data entry as well as tasks that require planning and time management. The ability to prioritize and complete tasks when there are numerous job requests is essential. A combination of standing, sitting, walking, and driving is expected in this role. Must have a reliable vehicle to commute to work and to run errands in the community.
