Reports to: Manager, Airfield Services

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Manager, Airfield Services and Lead Hand, Heavy Duty Equipment Technician, the Journeyman Heavy Duty Equipment Technician is responsible for maintaining, repairing, overhauling, and inspecting or installing all mobile equipment to airport specifications using manufacturer technology in a timely and cost-effective manner. The Heavy Duty Equipment Technician is responsible for keeping all equipment running, ensuring that operational readiness is maintained for fire department essential services and airport operations.

Responsibilities include:

• Execution of a preventative maintenance program to ensure high reliability, availability, and quality of mobile equipment.
• Perform preventative maintenance and inspections of heavy and light equipment: including inspections of fluid levels, brakes, drive line, suspension, front end, and attachments for failure, wear, or damage, etc.
• Documentation inspections on preventative maintenance activities performed in maintenance management software.
• Maintain a high degree of mindfulness when performing maintenance duties, to ensure a controlled, well organized work site, including an ongoing catalogue and inventory of all tools and equipment used.
• Download programs and upload parameters on how machines will function using HCT and SNAP-ON software.
• Conduct regular scheduled maintenance: oil change and lube, rebuild airport sweepers brooms, engine repairs, plow blade replacements, tire replacement, etc.
• Respond to and repair mobile equipment including light, medium to heavy duty trucks, emergency vehicles, snow blowers, tractors, trailers, graders, sweepers, and ground maintenance equipment.
• Welding, fabrication, and modification to new and existing equipment.
• Manufacture of tools to increase repair efficiency.
• Installation of aftermarket equipment (such as supplemental lighting, etc.).
• Ability to instruct operators on proper operations of equipment, providing functional guidance to airfield employees on general equipment maintenance activities.

Selection Criteria include:

• 5 years' previous experience as a Heavy Duty Equipment Technician.
• Designated Red Seal journeyman ticket in the Heavy Duty Equipment Technician trade.
• Mechanical aptitude.
• Analysis & troubleshooting skills.
• Knowledge of gas and diesel engines.
• Aptitude to analyze mechanical diagnostics, and mechanical problem solving.
• Experience with a computerized maintenance management system is an asset.
• Competent in HCT and SNAP-ON software to be able to download programs and upload parameters on machine functionality.
• Ability to work shift work, which includes nights and weekends, and be on-call outside of normal shift schedule.
• Physically able to lift up to 50lbs without assistance.
• Must provide driver's abstract and have a valid Class 3 with Air Brake endorsement.
• Ability to acquire and maintain Airport Vehicle Operator Permit "D/A" (AVOP).

Pay: $83,000.00-$94,000.00 per year
