Primary Responsibilities:

• Working in partnership with senior management to promote a health and safety culture.
• Providing leadership and strategic direction of the Health and Safety program
• Ensuring company is meeting or exceeding all legislative requirements by continuously improving Health and Safety Program elements including safety training and orientation, safe work procedures, hazard analysis, audits, and regular inspections
• Managing the Health and Safety database for the Company, Workers and Sub-Contractors
• Overseeing the JOHSC\xe2\x80\x99s activities at the various worksites to ensure their continued effectiveness in the overall safety program
• Continual communication of health and safety information to all business stakeholders
• Developing, implementing, and maintaining Health and Safety Plans for various projects including Care and Maintenance of abandoned mine sites and bridge and road construction.
• Managing all incidents to ensure proper procedure is followed in office and documentation is accurate, complete and communicated as needed
• Developing, hosting and/or coordinating training sessions in various topics as needed
• Submitting documentation and audits as required for safety designations as required (COR)
• Conducting orientations for new staff
• Conducting monthly safety meetings
• Conducting field visits as required, acting as point of contact for incidents on site

Requirements

• CSP or CRSP accreditation is considered an asset
• Be fit for duty daily
• Self-starter with the proven ability to lead, take initiative, and work independently
• Comply with Boreal Engineering Ltd.\xe2\x80\x99s and/or Clients Health and Safety program
• Knowledge of the Health and Safety Act, territorial regulations, and WCB programs
• Professional discretion
• Ability to work with multiple stakeholders and possess excellent leadership skills
• Experience leading safety investigations
• Excellent English communication and interpersonal skills
• Team-oriented with a sense of humour and positivity
• Sound judgment, strong critical thinking, and decision-making skills
• Ability to deal with ambiguity in a fast-paced environment
• Ability to motivate employees in the importance of health & safety
• Presentation skills
• Strong skills and experience with Microsoft Office software applications
• You must be willing to travel and work in remote locations

Required Tickets

• Class 5 Driver\xe2\x80\x99s License
• Standard First Aid (minimum)
• National Health & Safety Administrator (preferred)
• Principles of Health & Safety Management (preferred)
• Leadership for Safety Excellence (preferred)
• Safety (Internal) Auditor Training (preferred)
• WHMIS Train the Trainer (preferred)
• Return to Work & the Basics of Workers Compensation for Large or for Small Business

Schedule

• Monday to Friday
• 8 hours per day
• Some flexibility of schedule will be required during busy season
