The Health and Safety Advisor will primarily be responsible for the development and implementation of a Health and Safety Program suitable for Doka Canada Ltd., as well as the management of Health and Safety related education and training. This position will oversee a national Safety Committee and lead members and other employees towards the best possible solutions for minimizing risk and maximizing success. In addition, this role is in charge of handling, reporting and investigating Health and Safety cases in communication with internal and external authorities.

The Health and Safety Advisor will report to the Head of Human Resources Canada and be part of the HR Team located in Bolton, Ontario. To ensure high performance and effective team cooperation excellent interpersonal, communication and leadership skills will be required.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the development of a suitable Health and Safety Program complying with all provincial and federal regulations and falls in line with Doka\'s global strategy;
  • Creates and carries out effective methods for the implementation of the Health and Safety Program on a regional and national level;
  • Continuously maintains the execution, quality and timeliness of the Health and Safety Program in each branch location;
  • Ensures that Doka Canada remains compliant with all relevant Health and Safety Legislations and by-laws at all times;
  • Builds and carries out necessary training for employees to comply effectively with the Health and Safety Program and regulations;
  • Builds, leads and develops a national company safety committee;
  • In accordance with the safety committee, assigns a Health and Safety Steward for each branch location and continuously supports their Health and Safety education, legislative knowledge and compliance;
  • Records all relevant analytics to audit the success and quality of the Health and Safety culture at Doka Canada (e.g. TRIR, injury time off, etc.) and files the correct reports;
  • Responsible for the correct handling and documentation of short and long-term disability, back to work procedures and other relevant case files;
  • Educates employees on their provincial Health and Safety Resources (e.g. WCB, WSIB, CNESST);
  • Facilitates the communication of Health and Safety related cases with external authorities like Canada Life and provincial Insurances;
  • Responsible for case related workplace investigations and procedures;
  • Conducts regular generic workplace investigations regarding potential hazards, associated prevention and risk minimization;
  • Contact person for all Health and Safety concerns of employees and advises on safety standards, regulations and correct legislations;
  • Demonstrates exemplary behaviour in all Health and Safety matters and remains above reproach in attitude towards company policies ensuring compliance and confidentiality;
  • If necessary, undertakes travels between branch locations to ensure smooth Health and Safety operations.
Qualifications
  • 6+ years of experience in the field of Health and Safety;
  • Degree/Diploma in a Business related field is preferred;
  • Experienced in Change Management (e.g. Prosci or similar) is preferred;
  • CRSP Certificate is a plus;
  • Knowledge of provincial and federal jurisdictions and Health and Safety Regulations is required;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills are a must; being bilingual in both English and French will be an asset;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to build effective relationships facilitating relevant change and implementation processes;
  • Excellent organizational skills, time management and priority setting to stay ahead of internal and external changes and requirements.
