The Head Chef is responsible for overseeing all kitchen operations and will carry out both administrative tasks and food preparation. Working closely with the Culinary Operations Supervisor and kitchen staff, the Head Chef will ensure that the kitchen is organized, inventory is maintained, and quality food is prepared.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Implementing the Chef Skills programming
Carrying out the onboarding of all new program participants
Working alongside youth to provide Chef Skills training
Ensuring that youth complete their Chef Skills program checklists
Communicating with Job Skills Coordinator about youth progress throughout the program, as well as any concerns or issues that may arise
Preparing and serving fresh, high-quality food across all Mackie’s Place sites
Preparing fresh ingredients prior to dinner service
Packaging food for catering service to various Mackie’s Place sites
Utilization of all Mackie’s Place administrative systems, including Basecamp, Google Drive, Google Calendar, Payworks, etc.
Organized and timely completion of various administrative tasks
Creating meal plans and testing schedules
Ensuring the quarterly meal plan is always up-to-date and implemented accurately
Maintaining a clean and organized kitchen, including storage spaces, fridges, and freezers
Ensuring proper storage of all food and kitchen supplies
Weekly fridge cleaning and disposal of expired products
Overseeing kitchen operations for the Mackie’s Pie Club
Ensuring bakers are maintaining high quality product
Build and maintain relationships with food suppliers
Communicating with Culinary Operations Supervisor to ensure that inventory is maintained
Communicating with the Site Manager to fill staff scheduling needs
Leading the culinary team and carrying out performance reviews as per the Mackie’s Place process
QUALIFICATIONS THAT ASSIST IN THIS POSITION
Previous work experience in a restaurant management position
Food Safe certification
Valid First Aid and CPR certification
Provincial Criminal Record Check for Children and Vulnerable Adults (mandatory upon hiring)
Starting annual salary: $55,000
Full-time (weekdays, day-time hours), with occasional evenings or weekends for special events
