Piatto Cavendish will operate 11:30am-9pm, 7 days a week, from June 22 - September 4. However the start and end dates for the position are as follows: Start date: June 19, 2023 End date: September 8, 2023 Head Chef - Job Brief We are hiring an experienced Chef to organize the kitchen activities and ensure high quality menu execution at Piatto Cavendish. This position will be seasonal and based out of Avonlea Village. The Head Chef is responsible for every aspect of the kitchen at the Cavendish location and will always ensure strict adherence to food and health safety standards. With support from ownership the Head Chef will ensure the proper execution of Neapolitan pizza making standards - including baking pizzas in a wood fired oven, manage kitchen staff, and creating a positive work environment for the whole team. The Head Chef is first in command in the facilities and will direct the work for Line Cooks, while working with the FOH team to maintain a safe and positive work environment and create a great customer experience! The Head Chef must be able to guide and empower their team to execute the tasks at hand with a clear understanding of expectations. The Piatto experience includes cooking in an open kitchen that is visible to all diners. The Head Chef will be comfortable working in this environment and engaging with guests who may be seated at the kitchen bar. Responsibilities

  • Learn the proper process for Neapolitan style pizza making and adhere to all rules to maintain certification
  • Be comfortable working a woodfired pizza oven
  • Control and direct the food preparation process and any other relative activities
  • Assist in the construction of menus and create daily features in line with Receiver food styling
  • Minimize food waste through proper organization and ordering
  • Plan orders of equipment or ingredients
  • Arrange for repairs when necessary
  • Remedy any problems or defects
  • Oversee the work of kitchen team members
  • Ensure compliance with sanitation regulations and safety standards
  • Foster a climate of cooperation and respect between co-workers
  • Great leadership and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ensure all health and safety protocols are being met, demonstrating through leadership by undertaking tasks as necessary and delegating tasks when needed.
Requirements and skills
  • Proven experience as Chef (asset if this was in a leadership position)
  • Ability in dividing responsibilities and monitoring progress
  • Outstanding communication and leadership skills
  • Outgoing and friendly personality
  • Holds a current Food Safety Certificate
  • Degree in Culinary science or related certificate an asset but not a requirement
48 hours/week Compensation:
$19-20/hr Job Types: Full-time, Fixed term contract, Seasonal
