Boutique Feeling".About The RoleWe are looking for a highly driven, hands on Financial Accountant who is comfortable working in a fast paced environment to join our team based in Toronto's west end.The position offers significant responsibility, gives you ownership of projects and you are part of the decision making within the company. There is interaction with cross-functional teams and leadership, as well as considerable opportunity to have a large impact within an ever growing and exciting organization.What You Will Do:

  • Perform day-to-day accounting and financial duties through all phases of projects, from acquisition until disposition;
  • Oversee general ledger accounts, A/P & A/R reconciliations, month-end, progress-draws, closeouts, year-end, balance sheet and income statement results and analysis;
  • Prepare financial statements and draw request for external lenders on monthly basis;
  • Prepare and review monthly financial reports to ensure compliance and reporting according to internal policies;
  • Follow up on outstanding invoices with project managers and investigate project variances;
  • Monthly review of job cost activity, ensuring consistent and proper coding;
  • Ensure project budgets are up-to-date, and follow up with Project Managers for any discrepancies;
  • Prepare and file all relevant Government remittances of projects;
  • Review and monitor project financial activity, including budgets, invoices, work orders, contracts and purchase orders, change orders, close-out documents with a high level of accuracy and within required timeframes;
  • Effectively and accurately communicate discrepancies in project reports with Project Managers;
  • Prepare year-end working papers and liaison with external auditors to complete the year-end files;
  • Perform other duties as requested and required.
What You Will Need: 6+ years of senior accounting experience in a construction and/or real estate development environment;
  • University or College Degree in Accounting or Finance, or related business curriculum and working towards a professional designation or have completed CPA;
  • Thorough knowledge of accounting and relevant government fillings;
  • Ability to analyze and understand large volumes of financial data;
  • Quick learner who possesses a high sense of initiative, strong problem solving skills and can work under little supervision;
  • Strong organizational skills with proven efficiency to handle multiple projects at one time, both independently and in a team-based environment;
  • Excellent communication skills and proven ability to effectively communicate with all levels of an organization;
  • Possess a positive attitude and be an ambassador for the business with external stakeholders;
  • Ability to work under time constraints with strong attention to detail
  • Working knowledge of Newstar Homebuilder is necessary.
