Job Purpose The GIS Support Specialists assists the Business Services Leader - IT, drawing upon their training in Geographic Information Systems and other information technology related fields. This individual helps our IT department to maintain a superior mapping system for EQUS, and support the Business Services Leader - IT in technology projects. This individual also works with EQUS\xe2\x80\x99 GIS and related systems vendors to resolve issues. Duties
Enter mapping information into EQUS GIS system with:
Engineering Designs: Creating new jobs and entering completed jobs into Geodigital staking solution and post to Geographic Information System (GIS) using Milsoft and ESRI ArcGIS platform.
Data verification: Working with Operations Group, correcting data discrepancies between Field, GIS and Other EQUS\xe2\x80\x99 Systems.
Data Fixes and Model Connectivity: Supporting Operations Group for correcting and connecting GIS and Engineering data model using Engineering, GIS, or other tools.
Tool Development: Developing tools or add-ons in GIS based on EQUS needs while working collaboratively with IT Team.
Issue Reporting: Working with EQUS vendors to resolve issues in GIS and Engineering systems
Maintain and manage different EQUS\xe2\x80\x99 System such as Mapping, Engineering, Staking and Outage Management Systems
Develop training programs and train users on Mapping, Engineering, Outage Management, and Staking Systems
Perform audits of production GIS updates from Work Orders
Perform quality control of digital maps and help in creating standards
Creating and updating large format maps
Act as a resource for Operations Group for outages, GIS mapping issues, questions, and troubleshooting
Supporting all technology projects
Other related tasks, as required.
Review and Approval of Work This position reports to Business Services Leader \xe2\x80\x93 IT Job Requirements and Qualifications
A mapping background and understanding of GIS and related systems is required
Education or hands-on experience with ESRI ArcGIS and related products
Knowledge of Python programming and modeling in ESRI or any other GIS environment
Knowledge of LUA and Delphi scripting, and Crystal Reports would be an asset
Proficient in Microsoft Office suite and experience in database platforms such as Microsoft SQL Server and MySQL
Knowledge of spatial analysis techniques and geospatial data standards
Strong attention to detail, and possession of strong technical, analytical and communication skills
Positive attitude and ability to thrive in a fast-paced working environment
Ability to work both independently with minimal supervision and to collaboratively contribute to team initiatives
Knowledge or Experience of working in the Energy/Electricity utility sector would be an asset
The job is based in our Corporate office at Innisfail but also requires travelling to EQUS\xe2\x80\x99 remote offices and other locations, as needed.
Education and Experience
3 \xe2\x80\x93 5 years of practical GIS experience within the utility industry, preferred
Completion of Bachelor of Applied Technology or similar post-secondary education in Geographic Information Systems
