The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Geologist in Training (GIT) to join our Geology team in Thompson. Reporting to the Mines Chief Geologist as part of the Mines Technical Services - Mine Planning Department. This is a permanent position.

The Thompson Mines Technical Services (MTS) Team is integral to the success of the operations in being a safe and reliable producer. We aim to design and plan safe, sustainable ore extraction through technical excellence in the areas of geology, mine planning, ventilation, backfill, ground control, drill/blast and survey control.

Although experience in hard rock mining exploration or an industrial setting is considered an asset, we also appreciate that diversity of thought comes from our differences - and that's what makes us great!

As a Geologist in Training, you will have the opportunity to further your development by providing day-to-day support for various projects and initiatives within the Geology Department. Additionally in this position you will:

Requirements & Accountabilities:

• Diamond drill core logging and sample collection
• Geotechnical logging including taking structural measurements such as strike, dip, joint spacing, infilling, alterations, smoothness etc.
• Provide technical support and collaboration with senior geological staff
• Data management
• Provide support to the Thompson Mine Operations, which could include but not limited to updating mapping and structural measurements.
• Program coordination and logistical support
• Geological section generation and geological interpretation, and target generation

About You:

• The ideal candidate will possess an undergraduate degree in Geology
• A minimum of 2 years of related experience in a mining or exploration environment would be an asset
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 products to include Teams, Word, Excel, Outlook. Basic to intermediate understanding of Datamine Studio RM would be helpful. Basic to intermediate proficiency in Deswik or other mine planning software preferred.
• Strong Interpersonal and teamwork skills
• Strong communication skills and development of concise documents and presentation materials
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
