We have a proud history of mining in Manitoba. Our operations in Thompson, with two operating mines, is located in the awe-inspiring heart of the northern boreal region. It has a strong future in mining and milling, with an ongoing mission to grow as a safe, prosperous, and sustainable nickel producer.

Our Team

The Thompson Mines Technical Services (MTS) Team is integral to the success of the operations in being a safe and reliable producer. We aim to design and plan safe, sustainable ore extraction through technical excellence in the areas of geology, mine planning, ventilation, backfill, ground control, drill/blast and survey control.

The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Geologist in Training (GIT II) to join our Geology Team on site in Thompson, Manitoba.

Reporting to the Chief Geologist as part of the In- Mines Exploration team.

As a Geologist in Training, you will have the opportunity to further your development by providing day-to-day support,

for various projects and initiatives within the Geology Department.

Additionally in this position you will gain experience with:

• Diamond drill core logging and sample collection
• Geotechnical logging; including taking structural measurements such as strike, dip, joint spacing, infilling, alterations, smoothness etc.
• Provide technical support and collaboration with senior geological staff.
• Data management
• Provide support to the Thompson Mine Operations, which could include but not limited to, underground mapping and structural measurements.
• Program coordination and logistical support
• Geological section generation and geological interpretation, and target generation

About You

Education:

• The ideal candidate will possess an undergraduate degree in Geology.

Experience:

• A minimum of 2 years of related experience in a mining or exploration environment would be an asset.

Skills:

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 products to include Teams, Word, Excel, Outlook. Basic to intermediate understanding of Datamine Studio 3 is helpful. Basic to intermediate proficiency in Deswik or other mine planning software preferred.
• Strong verbal, written and analytical communication skills.
• Demonstrate open and transparent dialogue in all aspects of work.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Ensure compliance to the applicable regulations, standards and guidelines.
• Utilize good geological practices while minimizing costs.
• Complete assigned projects safely and on time
