Our Sudbury Operations have been in existence for more than 100 years. With five mines, a mill, a smelter, a refinery and nearly 4,000 employees it is also one of the largest integrated mining complexes in the world. Sudbury is also home to several administrative sites serving both the Ontario Operations as well as all our North Atlantic Operations.

Port Colborne is home to our Nickel Refinery where raw materials from our Sudbury operations are processed into electrocobalt and precious metals and serves as a distribution centre for finished nickel products.

The Opportunity

We are currently seeking Geologists-in-Training (GIT) to join our Ontario Operations team. These positions will be based in Sudbury and are all permanent opportunities.

The successful candidate will be a member of our Ontario Operations Geology department and will have a unique opportunity to experience short term placements in many of our world class underground mines over a four-year training period.

The candidate will participate in our established Geologist-in-Training learning program designed to provide new graduates with exposure to all our orebodies via * Placement at our Core Logging Facility where the candidate will learn the foundation of our Geology business.

• Placement in a beat geology role at one of our operating mines where the candidate will have an opportunity to learn grade control, mineability, dilution, mapping, ground control and ventilation.
• Learn more about our Vale definition diamond drilling programs, scheduling and coordination of drill movement, QA/QC.
• Work with surface exploration and mines exploration teams, conduct resources estimation and block modelling projects across our North Atlantic operations.

The successful candidate must be able to build and maintain relationships and interact with other technical staff, supervision, and production and maintenance employees. The position will involve regular trips underground to visit areas of responsibility. The Geologist-in-Training will have a unique opportunity to learn and be mentored by our very own experienced Geology workforce!

Education:

• Minimum B.Sc. Geology or B.Sc. Geological Engineering.
• Must be registered, or eligible to register as a Geoscientist in Training within an accredited professional geoscientist association.
