Job Title: Geoscientist/Geoscientist in TrainingStatus: Full time, permanent (35 hours/week)Remuneration: $50,000 - $80,000, plus benefits and coverage of professional fees..: The Geoscientist's role is to research and interpret the natural earth heritage of the
Tumbler Ridge UNESCO Global Geopark. The Geopark is a dynamic organisation that aims to share the stories of our rich geoheritage with the general public, as well as continuing to research our geoheritage for the broader scientific community, and to advance the UN's Sustainable Development Goals.The successful candidate will live in Tumbler Ridge, a community of approximately 2,500 residents in northern BC. Tumbler Ridge is a remote & pristine community with affordable housing options, excellent access to backcountry activities, and a renewed vision of supplementing its extraction economy with tourism. Find out more about Tumbler Ridge here.Job Duties: Under the direction of the Executive Director, the Geocientist/Geoscientist in Training will: Develop the Earth Sciences & Geoheritage program for the Tumbler Ridge Global
Geopark. Participate in scientific research under the supervision of qualified professional scientists within the Geopark Take on project specific work to further the overall program of the Tumbler Ridge
UNESCO Global Geopark Engage with the public to increase awareness of the Geopark's natural earth heritage features and UNESCO Work with Tumbler Ridge Global Geopark Society and public volunteers to deliver programming; Assist the public in the GeoInterpretive Centre; Reach out to public institutions and groups in Tumbler Ridge (such as the public schools and local community groups) to engage the public in learning about the
TRUGG and geoheritage; Represent the TRUGG at public events, both within and outside of Tumbler Ridge, and if needed, at conferences, forums, and on committees on the national and international scale; Generally assist the Executive Director in the aim of promotion and delivery of the Tumbler Ridge Global Geopark program as needed.Requirements: The applicant must be a graduate with an undergraduate degree (or equivalent) from a four year, full-time bachelor's program in geoscience (geology, earth science, environmental geoscience, or similar). This position will require the successful applicant to become registered as either a Professional Geoscientist (P.Geo), or as a
Geoscientist in Training (GIT) in the Province of BC after their probationary period (3 months). See the eligibility requirements of this program on the Engineers and
Geoscientists of BC's webpage.The successful candidate will embrace working with the public and engaging on a community level. They will have strong interpersonal skills and work closely with the rest of the Geopark team to deliver the Geopark program on a local, regional and global scale. The successful candidate must have intermediate or advanced writing and comprehension skills.
