North 42 Degrees Estate Winery is seeking an experienced and dynamic Operations Manager to oversee the day-to-day operations of a thriving winery and bistro. This leadership role requires a balance of strategic thinking, financial acumen, and hands-on management to ensure seamless coordination between front-of-house, back-of-house, and production teams.The ideal candidate is an operational leader who thrives in a fast-paced environment, demonstrates strong business insight, and has a passion for hospitality, food, and wine.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Management
Oversee daily operations of the winery and bistro, ensuring smooth coordination across all departments.
Manage scheduling, staffing, and workflow to meet customer demand efficiently.
Prepare weekly payroll reports and submit to the Controller.
Implement and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure consistency in service, food quality, and safety.
Monitor inventory for wine, food, and supplies, coordinating with vendors for timely replenishment.
Oversee and manage Toast POS and other operational systems; provide training and troubleshooting support to staff.
Financial & Business Oversight
Develop, monitor, and report on budgets, sales goals, and profitability targets.
Track key metrics such as labour costs, cost of goods sold (COGS), and average spend per guest.
Collaborate with accounting and bookkeeping teams to ensure timely invoicing, payroll, and reporting.
Identify opportunities to enhance revenue and reduce costs through pricing strategies, promotions, or process improvements.
Partner with the Executive Chef on menu development and pricing strategies.
Team Leadership & HR
Recruit, hire, train, and mentor staff across all departments.
Foster a culture of teamwork, accountability, and open communication.
Conduct performance evaluations and provide regular coaching and development opportunities.
Ensure compliance with labour laws, health and safety standards, and company policies.
Guest Experience & Customer Relations
Deliver an exceptional guest experience consistent with the brand's standards of hospitality.
Handle escalated guest concerns professionally and effectively.
Oversee event bookings, tastings, and private experiences to build loyalty and repeat business.
Gather and analyze customer feedback to drive continuous improvement.
Compliance & Safety
Ensure compliance with all liquor, food safety, and health regulations.
Maintain safety standards and coordinate staff training on OHSA and related requirements.
Oversee inspections and maintain accurate compliance records.
Marketing & Sales
Collaborate with marketing teams to promote the winery and bistro through events, social media, and community partnerships.
Support wine club programs, retail initiatives, and tourism opportunities.
Partner with the Event Coordinator to organize seasonal events and tastings.
Stay informed on market trends to maintain competitive offerings.
Strategic Growth
Work with ownership to establish and achieve long-term growth and brand development goals.
Identify new business opportunities, including online wine sales, event hosting, and partnerships.
Analyze performance data to inform strategic decisions.
Qualifications
Minimum 5 years of management experience in hospitality, restaurant, or winery operations.
Strong technology proficiency, including POS systems (Toast and Toast Tables) and project management tools.
Excellent leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
HR and payroll experience considered an asset.
Willingness to travel as required.
