The Job - General Labourer/ Water Damage Technician



At On Side, General Labourers (GLs)

/

Water Damage Technicians (WDTs) go wherever a burst pipe, blocked drain, sewer backup
(yes, sometimes it's one of those situations) or other water-related disaster calls.

Besides working for the main branch, this position may also have a focus on our Health Care work:
cleanliness and attention to detail are key factors.

Understanding the urgency of the situation and working with customers in a caring, calm and empathetic
manner are paramount to success! Working as a team, GLs mop up the mess to
ensure everything is shipshape and ready to get back to the pre-disaster state.

What you bring:


A General Labourers/ WDTs brings a bunch of abilities to their work, the most important being a 'get it done!' attitude.

Strong mechanical aptitude and hand and power tool-handling skills Detail-oriented, especially with cleanliness and contamination control Organized, punctual, and reliable Physically fit and comfortable with heavy lifting and being in tight spaces Safety-focused with demolition experience and good housekeeping habits Able to travel within the province and work independently Excellent customer service and communication skills Valid driver's license and clean abstract Clear criminal record Intermediate English proficiency, written and spoken
Past industry experience (although not required) that can translate into success as a WDT includes: demolition work, carpenter, apprentice, construction labourer, plumber, farm hand, janitor, landscaper, vac truck operator, laborer, swamper, technician.

Other stuff that will contribute to your success but isn't required:



IICRC Water Damage Technician Certification (if you don't have this, we'll help you get it!)

Of Note


Disasters can strike at any time so a rotating schedule of 24/7 after hours on-call work is a requirement.

Pay: $18.00-$20.00 per hour

Restoration work can be dirty. Flooded basements and sewer backups are the norm. Are you able and willing to work in these conditions? Restoration work requires documentation and tracking throughout your workday. Do you have basic computer and/or tablet/iPad experience? Are you comfortable operating a phone to navigate through applications and record info as instructed? This position can be taught. The successful candidate must be motivated to work, do overtime, eager to learn and make money, and can take guidance and criticism. Describe why you would be the best candidate for this job:
Have you ever used hand and/or power tools? Please describe your experience or comfort level: Are you able to work a Rotating On-Call Schedule (responding to emergency calls after hours)? This is additional to scheduled day time hours. Overtime is paid. Are you fluent reading / writing/ speaking English? Please rank your skills out of 10 (1 is basic, 10 is fluent) Are you looking for long term employment or seasonal/short term?

detailed cleaning: 1 year (preferred) demolition: 1 year (preferred) construction: 1 year (preferred)
Licence/Certification:

Full Unrestricted Canadian Driver's License (required)
