Job Description

Labourers at On Side are important team members who help rebuild and restore damaged personal and commercial property, anywhere and anytime disaster strikes. Labourers are the MVP of the restoration teams. Willing to learn, love being taught and full of ambition the Labourer knows they're going places in life and this is the first stop on the way to success!

Water damage in a home or business is one of the most stressful events our clients might ever experience. At On Side, Water Damage Technicians (WDTs) go wherever a burst pipe, blocked drain, sewer backup (yes, sometimes it's one of those situations) or other water-related disaster calls.

Working directly with the Water Damage Technicians, learning the ropes, this position is the steppingstone to becoming a Tech!

Labourers bring a host of abilities to their work with a 'get it done!' attitude. Additional abilities required include:

Physically fit-- water damage can, at times, include heavy lifting and getting into (and out of) tight places

Understanding and experience using hand and power tools

Mechanical aptitude-- you can look at something and just know how it works

Interest in demolition and emergency mitigation

Capable of using technology to record information as required

Curious nature, always want to know how things happen

Strong people, teamwork and communication skills

Attention to detail, ability to follow directions

A safety mindset

Valid driver's licence, clean drivers abstract and a clean criminal record (we do check)

Ability to communicate in English

Other stuff that'll help you be successful but isn't mandatory:



Experienced in construction, particularly demolition

First Aid

Disasters can strike at any time so a rotating schedule of 24/7 after hours on-call work is a requirement.

Are you capable of: Frequent lifting from 5-40 lbs, unassisted o Occasional lifting from 40-50lbs? Are you able to work a Rotating On-Call Schedule (responding to emergency calls after hours)? This is additional to scheduled day time hours. Overtime is paid. This position requires dependability. A successful person is reliable: arriving at work on time and as scheduled, prepared for the day. This is important when working in a team.
Will you be reliable and dependable for your team members?

Are you able to work later than scheduled when required? A job may require an additional hour or two of overtime to be fully complete. Being available to work a bit extra to get the job done is helpful (vs returning the next day for a quick finish). Overtime is paid. Restoration work requires documentation and tracking throughout your workday. Do you have basic computer and/or tablet/iPad experience? Restoration work can be dirty. Flooded basements and sewer backups are the norm. Are you able and willing to work in these conditions and use the proper PPE provided to you? Cross training is required for this role. Successful candidates will be trained in Demolition, Water Damage and Emergency Mitigation. Are you able and willing to train and work in various roles? Are you comfortable driving a cube truck/large fleet vehicle around the city and parking in residential streets? If not experienced, are you willing to learn?
Are you able to provide a clean driver's abstract?

Are you comfortable using hand and power tools? Where did you get the experience from? Do you have any experience with demolition, construction, home renovations? If yes, please tell us about what you have done.
