The Job - Water Damage Technician



At On Side, Water Damage Technicians (WDTs) go wherever a burst pipe, blocked drain, sewer backup (yes, sometimes it's one of those situations) or other water-related disaster calls. Understanding the urgency of the situation and working with customers in a caring, calm and empathetic manner are paramount to the success of a WDTs day!

Working as a team, WDTs mop up the mess to ensure everything is shipshape and ready to get back to the pre-disaster state.

Mechanical aptitude-- you can look at something and just know how it works Willing to help the team where needed (cross training) Demolition Willing to do overtime as required Willing to wear the PPE that is provided for the job, including being clean shaven (if applicable) for half and full face masks Detail oriented and curious Organized with a good sense of time-- you're rarely late and know where all your tools are Physically fit-- water damage can, at times, include heavy lifting and getting into (and out of) tight places Friendly and enjoys working in a team! A safety-first mindset Valid driver's licence & clean drivers abstract Able to successfully satisfy On Side's criminal record check requirements Ability to communicate in English written and spoken
Past industry experience (although not required) that can translate into success as a WDT includes: demolition work, carpenter, apprentice, construction labourer, plumber, farm hand, janitor, landscaper, vac truck operator, laborer, swamper, technician.

Other stuff that will contribute to your success but isn't required:



IICRC Water Damage Technician Certification (if you don't have this, we'll help you get it!)

Of Note



Disasters can strike at any time so a rotating schedule of 24/7 after hours on-call work is a requirement.

Pay: $22.00-$28.00 per hour

Have you ever dealt with water damage from flooding in a home? Do you have experience with drying tools (air movers, negative air machines, pressurized drying systems, floor drying systems, dehumidifiers)? Are you physically fit and can be in tight spaces? Restoration work can be dirty. Flooded basements and sewer backups are the norm. Are you able and willing to work in these conditions? Will you practice good housekeeping at all times to ensure a safe and non-cluttered worksite: Work with a "clean as you go" mentality? Do you have any experience with demolition? If yes, please describe what you have demolished and tools you have used. Are you able to work longer hours when required: 10-12 hours per day? Overtime would be provided. Are you a good communicator? This job requires discussions with homeowners and co-workers. Being patient and calm is a must. Please describe your capability and attitude when dealing with all people: This position can be physically demanding and requires a person to bend, crouch, reach, kneel, etc. There is also heavy lifting to move items around. Will this activity be a problem? Will you wear the proper PPE provided for the job? You may be required to wear half or full-face masks for certain jobs. Being clean-shaven (when notified the night before) is mandatory. Will you be clean-shaven when notified to do so? Are you able to work a Rotating On-Call Schedule (Responding to emergency calls after business hours)? This is additional to scheduled daytime hours as per the schedule. Premium and overtime is paid.
