The Opportunity

We are seeking twenty three (23) full-time, seasonal General Labourer's who will be working primarily within the Horticulture department. This position will take direction and be under the supervision of a Crew Leader, Lead/Supervisor. Working alongside Specialized General Labourers, the General Labourers, under supervision, will provide support and operational assistance to various departments within APC as assigned.

Responsibilities

Assist in the installation and care for plant material such as perennials, bedding plants, shrubs, bulbs, trees, lawns, etc. by watering, cultivating, staking, pruning/cutting, tilling, edging, and performing similar related activities. Assist the Arborists with tree and shrub care maintenance as directed. May assist with the unloading, delivery, and planting of floral and plant materials. Operate gardening equipment, till, fork and edge beds as required Remove debris and weeds from plant beds and surrounding areas. Maintain cleanliness within work space areas and assist with cleanup of all tools and equipment. Pinch, deadhead and prune plants as directed. Perform other related duties and responsibilities as required.

Required Qualifications and Experience

Possess a high school diploma and/or GED equivalent (or be in the process of completing either). Must possess a valid Manitoba Class 5 Driver's License. Some work experience performing general labour and operational experience. Previous experience working in teams and dealing with both internal and external customers. Basic technology and computer skills.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions

Physically demanding and repetitive tasks. Must be able to perform physically strenuous work outdoors in all types of weather. Combination of sitting, standing, pushing, lifting, kneeling and walking for extended periods. Frequently handling heavy loads of up to 45-50 lbs. Must be able to push/pull 50-250 lbs. Noise exposure from operations, mechanical equipment and animal vocalizations. Exposure to strong scents from animals and chemical products. Contact with plants and animals which may cause allergic reactions.
