Xeni Gwet'in First Nations Government is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented professional to join our Finance Department as a General Accountant. This role offers a meaningful opportunity to support the financial health of our Nation and contribute to the delivery of essential programs and services within our community.
The General Accountant will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day management of the General Ledger and supporting key accounting operations. We are looking for a self-motivated individual with strong accounting knowledge, a high level of accuracy, and a collaborative approach to improving financial systems, workflows, and controls.
Duties
Assist in the preparation of organization and departments budgets.
Process journal entries and accruals, ensuring accuracy and compliance with financial policies.
Generate and maintain general ledger (GL) reports.
Reconcile sub-ledgers such as Accounts Payable (AP), Accounts Receivable (AR), and other sub-ledgers with the GL.
Support the year-end audit process by providing necessary documentation and reports.
Maintain and update GL accounts and department codes, ensuring accurate transaction tracking.
Collaborate with finance team members to improve accounting procedures and streamline workflows.
Provide functional support to other areas of the finance team as needed.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Skills
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field.
Minimum of 1 year of relevant accounting experience.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and email communication tools.
Strong understanding of accounting systems and financial processes.
Excellent organizational and communication skills.
Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
Commitment to professionalism and confidentiality.
Personal Suitability
Valid Class 5 Driver's License.
Access to a personal vehicle for work-related travel considered an asset.
Ability to pass a criminal record and police background check.
Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
Demonstrated willingness to learn and adapt.
