POSITION SUMMARY:

The Royal Ontario Museum (ROM) is seeking a skilled and dedicated French Language Service Coordinator to join our team. As the Translator/Revisor, you will be responsible for providing translation services from English to French across various museum departments. This includes translating and proofreading materials such as educational resources, programming content, retail and food services information, press releases, marketing collateral, website copy, and more. Additionally, you will support the Manager of French Language Services in revising and editing ROM corporate documents as needed.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Translate diverse materials, including education resources, programming content, retail and food services information, press releases, marketing collateral, website copy, and more, from English to French, ensuring accuracy and maintaining the intended meaning.
  • Proofread and revise translated materials, ensuring linguistic quality, consistency, and adherence to French graphic and writing conventions.
  • Collaborate with various museum departments to understand their translation needs and provide language support accordingly.
  • Conduct terminology research and maintain consistent terminology usage across translations to ensure coherence and accuracy.
  • Utilize open-source content management frameworks, such as Drupal, to update or add multilingual content to ROM-powered or administered websites, ensuring linguistic and cultural appropriateness.
  • Support the Manager of French Language Services in revising and editing ROM corporate documents, ensuring clear and effective communication in French.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends and best practices in translation, language services, and digital content management.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • University degree in French Translation, preferably with experience in the cultural sector. Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
  • Five (5) to eight (8) years of experience, with a background in Arts and Culture and/or Government Agency being an asset. This includes a minimum of three (3) years of progressively senior translation work in various areas, including websites, and two (2) years of independent revision/editing work.
  • Proficiency in utilizing open-source content management frameworks, such as Drupal, in updating or adding content in a multilingual context to ROM-powered or administered websites using desktop tools and main features.
  • Superior knowledge of both English and French, with excellent written and oral communication skills in both languages.
  • Strong ability to translate, revise/edit, write, and proofread a wide range of information in French, with a commitment to delivering high-quality work in a flexible, fast-paced environment with tight deadlines.
  • Well-developed organizational, analytical, and terminology research skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with a focus on collaboration and teamwork.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office systems, terminology databanks, digital and social media platforms, and updating and maintaining website applications and content management systems (CMS).
  • Familiarity with French graphics and writing conventions for editing purposes.

SCHEDULE: 35 HOURS
