This role involves supervising a team of technicians responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of fire alarm and security systems. The Supervisor also manages subcontractors, oversees system monitoring portals, ensures compliance with codes and standards, and provides technical expertise during emergencies. Strong knowledge of fire alarm systems, leadership skills, and bilingual communication (French/English) are essential.
The Fire Alarm Systems Supervisor works under the Director of Security and Fire Prevention.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Supervise an internal team of technicians responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of fire alarm and security systems
Assess construction sites and initiate projects to address system failures
Hire and coordinate subcontractors for alarm systems when required
Manage online account portals to monitor alarm systems and configure equipment
Produce reports following inspections
Read and understand engineering plans, technical specifications, diagrams, installation and maintenance manuals
Perform cost estimation
Repair intrusion systems and provide ongoing service
Program system components and start up the system
Verify the system and its components and perform testing with monitoring centers and relevant authorities
Provide technical expertise during problematic situations
Identify any anomalies or make recommendations according to current standards
Respond to emergency service calls (evenings and nights on a rotating basis)
Perform updates and repairs on alarm panels
SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS
DEP in installation and maintenance of security systems (CCQ - Code 222), or a diploma in electronics or an equivalent from a recognized college or university, or proven documented professional competency or equivalent
College-level certificate in fire prevention is an asset
Knowledge of software used for programming security systems
Proficiency with new industry technologies
Valid driver's license
License from the Bureau de la securite privee (BSP)
Fire Alarm Technician card (ACAI/CFAA) or registration with the Canadian Fire Alarm Association (CFAA), or a comparable qualification
5 years of experience as a service technician in the fire alarm industry
Knowledge of Mircom and Bosch systems considered an asset
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, OneNote, and SharePoint considered an asset
Knowledge of the National Building Code, National Fire Code, ULC standards, and their updates
Intermediate level, oral and written (French and English).
The employee in this position will interact more than 40% of the time with international customers, suppliers and colleagues (USA) who understand and communicate only in English.
