The position

Reporting to the Financial Controller, the Financial Accountant is responsible for the delivery of timely and accurate information to business leaders and their teams. This is a key role supporting the year end review engagement, annual budgets and forecasts, and analysis. The Financial Accountant is a diverse role that supports all areas of the business, including manufacturing, logistics and our three sales channels (Ecommerce, Retail and Strategic Partnerships). This position provides valuable information and insights into business performance which will enable us to meet our growth objectives.

This is a hybrid position working from the Head Office in Canmore, Alberta a minimum of 2 days per week.

What you\'ll be doing

  • Lead the period end and year end close process and ensure timely and accurate recording of transactions
  • Ensure financial records are maintained in accordance with ASPE
  • Assist the Financial Controller in the period end and year end reviews of financial statements, post adjustments and accruals, and respond to inquiries regarding variances versus budget
  • Assist the Financial Controller in preparing financial management reports for the period, quarter, and other ad hoc reports
  • Reconcile, analyze, and record the necessary adjustments on key balance sheet accounts
  • Prepare financial reports on margins and costs to help leaders drive profits and identify procurement and manufacturing process improvements
  • Assist the Financial Controller in completing audit and/or review engagement requirements and act as a key liaison with audit partners
  • Prepare and review the fixed assets schedule and depreciation calculation for budget and year end
  • Support the annual budget process and responsible for the proper lease expense recognition and ensure that lessors\' invoices are bulled in accordance with lease agreements
  • Support the business by establishing internal controls including documentation and decision making tools to maintain a strong balance sheet
  • Drive process improvement initiatives throughout the organization
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned
Does this sound like you?
  • Bachelor\'s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business with an emphasis in Accounting
  • Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation, or equivalent is preferred
  • 3-5 years of post-designation experience in a similar environment (retail and/or manufacturing experience is preferred)
  • Strong computer skills, particularly spreadsheet applications and experience working with large ERP systems (NetSuite is a plus)
  • A passion for process improvement, excellent problem solving and decision making abilities
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to turn data into actionable information
  • The ability to effectively manage time whilst balancing competing deliverables
  • A positive attitude, strong work ethic, and attention to detail
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
