PURPOSE OF THE JOB

The Finance Manger is responsible for the overall management and integration of the accounting, finance and tax functions related to Inversago Pharma and Novo Nordisk R&D Canada Inc. (NNRDCA), two newly acquired Canadian affiliates within the Novo Nordisk group. The Finance Manager is accountable for the implementation and management of the internal control environment and will continuously seek out areas for improvement. The Finance Manger will manage the local treasury functions, including cash flows and bank reconciliations. The Finance Manager is also responsible for supporting the tax and transfer pricing functions in the fulfillment of local and global tax responsibilities.

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

Financial Process, Financial Reporting and Audits: 40%

  • Manage month-end / year-end financial closing process for Inversago and NNRDCA.
  • Assist with the implementation of the ERP systems.
  • Knowledge of the operation of the general ledger system ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of financial results and reporting requirements.
  • Review monthly reconciliations to ensure accurate and in accordance with IFRS and Global requirements.
  • Manage and establish KPIs for the Global Business Services team as it relates to financial reporting ensuring consistent and regular communications are established and guidance is provided.
  • Lead responsibility in preparing financial reporting for local and global requirements, and ensuring financial records are maintained in compliance with accepted policies and practices.
  • Management of internal and external audits and collaborating cross-functionally to ensure all audit requirements are being fulfilled.
  • Works with the Inversago VP Finance to carry out day to day financial activities including journal entries and account analyses and managing invoicing, payables, and expense reports.
Tax & Treasury: 25%
  • Manage Federal & Provincial Income Tax Returns, SR&ED credits, and all other tax compliance.
  • Preparation of annual and interim tax provision and forecasts, including calculation of the current and deferred tax accounts in a timely and accurate manner. Ensure tax pages of annual and forecasted Audit Questionnaires are accurately completed and submitted to HQ.
  • Maintaining transfer pricing documentation and reporting in accordance with headquarter and external requirements.
  • Ensure intercompany transactions are properly documented and adhere to external transfer pricing requirements.
  • Review monthly VAT returns.
  • Responsible for the monthly cash flow forecast preparation, analysis, and submission.
  • Management of the internal and external banking relationships to ensure Inversago and NNRDCA receives appropriate level of required service.
  • Manage the execution and maintenance of intercompany loans and repayments.
  • Analysis of long-term treasury implications to provide input on cash management strategies.
Financial Planning & Analysis: 20%
  • Drive timely & solid delivery of AB / RE budget submissions & ad-hoc requests within area of expertise
  • Areas of responsibility may include the following:
  • Performance & risk management, including KPIs & risk reporting
  • Investment budget & asset review
  • Business intelligence, including creation & improvement of relevant analytical tools
  • Manning & capacity costs, including driving budget processes across Inversago
  • Driving planning, forecasting & controlling
  • Other accountabilities, as assigned
  • Safeguard that Inversago process areas meet financial targets by using continuous analysis, follow-up & suggesting corrective/preventive actions to leadership team
  • Use process area knowledge & business insights to seek improvement opportunities & solve business challenges
  • Proactively support local business cases & decision-making involving areas of process responsibility
  • Ensure increase of financial understanding across the organization by offering training & participating in cross area processes, etc.
Internal Controls / Compliance: 5%
  • Responsible for finance internal control environment in line with internal control reporting framework.
  • Responsible for ensuring existence and completeness of controls and providing sufficient supporting documentation.
  • Monitors internal controls system for Inversago and NNRDCA, identifying immediate actions to mitigate internal control weaknesses / noncompliance, reporting any areas of concern or noncompliance to the Director, Financial Operations and Inversago VP Finance.
Projects & Other: 10%
  • Develop digitalization framework and implement automation workflows to improve efficiencies within the finance department in line with Global Finance Strategy, engaging external partners where necessary. Providing guidance and training on digitalization initiatives to members of the finance team.
  • Review and negotiate contracts on behalf of finance considering all accounting implications and ensure sufficient insurance requirements are met.
  • Manage the insurance covering Inversago and NNRDCA in accordance with Global and Local coverage requirements.
  • Other ad hoc tasks as required by the Director, Financial Operations.
Key Compliance
  • Support any changes to the Accounting System
  • Develops, implements and maintains an adequate system of internal controls throughout the Company
  • Identifies opportunities to strengthen internal financial controls and mitigates internal control weaknesses by implementing efficient and effective controls
  • Ensures financial records are maintained in compliance with IFRS and required policies
EDUCATION (Minimum Requirements)
  • Business/Accounting/Commerce Degree
  • Designation (CPA, CA)
EXPERIENCE (Minimum Requirements)
  • Experience with SAP is required, and SAP Business Warehouse is preferred
  • Proven success and minimum of 5 years related work experience
  • In-depth Knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and Internal Controls
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Applications (Excel, Word etc)
  • Takes ownership, assumes accountability and demonstrates leadership potential
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Proven ability to proactively identify and manage risks and issues and follow-up in a timely manner
  • Ability to work in demanding and changing environments, managing projects and deadlines with minimal supervision

Preferred Experience Requirement:
  • Knowledge and experience in pharmaceutical industry preferred
  • Experience in external audit and internal controls preferred
  • Experience with Alteryx, Tableau, and other digitalization tools is preferred
WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Head office based with the ability to work from home
  • Minimal overnight travel (less than 10%)
  • Expectation of ability to manage multiple stakeholders and meet strict deadlines on short notice
