POSITION SUMMARY

Under the supervision of the Family Well-being Manager, the FWB Program Cook will menu plan, shop for ingredients, and prepare nutritional daily meals and snacks for the children and families attending programming. This will be done in accordance with Canada's Food Guide and the Certified Food Handler Training.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Plan weekly menus for all meals and snacks which reflect Inuit cultural traditions and the needs of the children and families attending programming when possible. (e.g. allergies) Consult on trends, preferences and cultural requirements for meal planning with Manager and program staff Ensure menu planning always reflects the Canada's Food Guide Record menus on menu plan and post a copy in the kitchen Purchase food and kitchen supplies on a weekly basis in accordance with approved budget Promptly submit receipts to manager for reconciliation Maintain an inventory of supplies, equipment and materials Prepare and serve nutritious meals for programming. Prepare snacks for special field trips scheduled during programming hours Support the program with all special events, meetings, etc. Keep up-to-date and informed about current development in food storage and preparation by adhering to Food Handler Certification Supervise and guide volunteers assisting with meal preparation and clean up Always Follow the Food Safety Checklist Ensure food/supplies are stored and prepared according to regulations of the Food Clean, sterilize and/or disinfect the kitchen area, all dishes and equipment daily and after food preparation Clean and sanitize stove, refrigerator, cupboards on quarterly basis or more often as required Prepare for annual health inspection Manage waste and recycling in kitchen area

ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS

Prepare snacks and meals within daily schedules and time frames Demonstrate stress resistance and stamina in planning and preparing meals in keeping with in required daily deadlines Moderate physical activity associated with mean preparation (e.g. standing, carrying trays)

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS



Develop supportive and professional rapport with Inuuqatigiit staff. Participate in problem-solving and conflict resolution when required. Foster positive relationships with participants using well known elements of relationship buildings (e.g. attentive listening, empathy, non-judgmental, etc. Assume leadership role in relation to food preparation and menus (i.e. safety, policies, legislation) Act as a positive role model to promote professional values and ethics within Inuuqatigiit and to youth and parents

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

Knowledge of Inuit diet and food preparation Knowledge of Canada's Food Guide, Indigenous Food Guide and nutritional needs of program attendees Knowledge of menu planning and sanitization process Ability to work in a collaborative team environment Possession of a valid driver's license

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS



Experience working with Inuit or Indigenous communities Food Handlers training course from the City of Ottawa WHMIS training (or willingness to become trained) Minimum one-year experience working with Inuit or Indigenous community First Aid and CPR certification (or willingness to become trained)

One-year food service/cooking experience

Vulnerable Sector Check required in keeping with Inuuqatigiit Personnel Policies and Procedures Medical certification of good health TB Test if applicable and other immunizations up-to-date COVID-19 vaccine (Dose 1 & 2) CPR / First Aid Certification (or willingness to become certified)
