Job Summary

The Executive Vice-President (EVP), Nuclear Development is accountable to the President & Chief Executive Officer and is responsible for providing strategic advisory services, leadership, and direction to SaskPower for the planning, development and execution of a Nuclear Strategy for the Province of Saskatchewan, ensuring meticulous execution within defined timelines and budgetary parameters.

This is a critical role within the company and will be responsible for all aspects of SaskPower\'s nuclear file. The successful candidate for this position will be presented with a tremendous opportunity to play a leading role in Saskatchewan\'s new nuclear industry and leave a lasting mark on the Canadian nuclear sector as a whole. The EVP will strategically build and effectively lead a Nuclear division, which is new to SaskPower and the Province of Saskatchewan, while adhering to external Federal/Provincial licensing and regulatory requirements, and safely and seamlessly integrating into SaskPower\'s organization.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Represent SaskPower and the Nuclear division on recommendations to members of Government (Federal and Provincial), Crown Investments Corporation, SaskPower Board of Directors and SaskPower Executive to ensure a strategic approach is applied to all internal and external corporate endeavors.
  • Develop and maintain working relationships with International Nuclear Agencies (International Atomic Energy Agency, World Association of Nuclear Operators, Nuclear Energy Agency) to promote safe and secure nuclear energy production.
  • Accountable to provide input and direction into SaskPower\'s annual business and strategic plans, focusing on Nuclear and its integration with current and future supply plans.
  • Ensure the development of strategies and long-range plans and provide oversight and guidance for the management of major projects that ensure the sustainment of a clean energy future.
  • Providing strategic leadership and direction to the corporation to support achievement of corporate vision and business plan and business continuity objectives. Directs the creation of business plans, policies and processes to achieve the corporate vision; ensures optimal performance and a healthy management team by selecting, developing and motivating the management team.
  • Ensure the organization is poised to meet all federal and provincial regulatory and environmental regulations through the development of strong federal and provincial government relations.
  • Ensure strong external relations and communications with all stakeholders (Premier, Ministers, CIC Board, CIC Staff, Major Customers, Business Community and other utility market participants).
  • Identify, analyze and recommend strategic alliances that will build and sustain nuclear as part of the supply mix.
  • Set clear performance targets, goals and objectives and establish metrics to measure performance within the Nuclear division to ensure operational excellence.
  • Be a champion of change to enact and enable a significant shift in corporate safety, management systems and operational excellence.
  • Provide leadership to ensure the workforce is fully engaged in all areas of the Corporation.
  • Recommend programs and policies by analyzing needs of the company and industry, identifying and anticipating trends and evaluating options.
  • Provide personal leadership that focuses on safety while encouraging employee productivity and a culture of responsiveness to the needs of the organization and its customers.
The Person:

The EVP, Nuclear Development will be a trusted, visionary and innovative leader, whose passion and purpose reflect SaskPower\'s values of safety, openness, collaboration and accountability. He/she must have a strategic orientation, be a strong communicator, architect of change, lead the culture shift that is being undertaken at SaskPower, and have a proven track record of project execution. He/she, along with the rest of the Senior Executive team will transform the organization over the short and long term in a meaningful way to best position SaskPower into the future.

Qualifications, Skills and Abilities:
  • Post-Secondary Degree or equivalent professional qualifications supplemented with extensive experience in senior management roles leading business initiatives that support the Corporation\'s vision, mission and strategic priorities.
  • Experience working with International Nuclear Agencies (International Atomic Energy Agency, World Association of Nuclear Operators, Nuclear Energy Agency) to promote safe and secure nuclear energy production
  • Broad experience in the Nuclear Industry, including but not limited to research, development and proven project oversight through to execution; experience in Government and/or a power utility will be considered an asset.
  • Knowledge and understanding of current industry, political, economic and social trends.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a senior team providing a supportive and innovative work environment.
  • Superior leadership and planning skills along with sound judgement, innovative approaches to problem solving and the capability to conceptualize impact of change and manage change in an ever-changing environment.
  • Energetic leader with presence, credibility and proven ability to successfully communicate, influence and build relationships across all levels within SaskPower, with customers and other key external stakeholders.
  • Excellent oral, written and group communication skills including the ability to develop and present Executive and Board of Directors briefing material, as well as highly professional presentations to a diverse group of internal and external parties.
  • Strategic thinker with demonstrated ability to manage complex and confidential issues of extreme sensitivity.
  • Excellent conflict resolution, negotiation and problem-solving skills with sound decision-making abilities in recommending innovative and creative business solutions in support of optimal organizational performance.
