Position Summary

UHN Executive Director of Lakeside Long Term Care Centre is responsible for providing oversight and direction concerning all operational matters related to the Facility. In doing so, they will acquire and review all relevant documents regarding the Facility from Extendicare enabling them to provide direction and make policies guiding the services provided by Extendicare.

Reporting to the VP (UHN) and working collaboratively with Extendicare, is responsible for the daily administration and management of Lakeside Long Term Care Centre and related programs; administering, directing and coordinating the delivery of Medical, Nursing, Dietary, Environmental, Health & Safety, Therapeutic, Social, Recreational services and activities in the Home to ensure residents, clients and visitors are provided with services that are compliant with all applicable legislation and regulation, reflecting the commitment to a safe, secure and client focused environment, and taking the lead in special projects, as assigned.

Duties

  • Takes a committed lead to create and promote a vision of excellence in the delivery of interdisciplinary care and service provided to residents of the Facility
  • Works onsite at the Facility to represent UHN in overseeing the operation of the Facility
  • Provides leadership through responsive and timely problem solving regarding operational oversight pertaining to resident care and service delivery issues throughout the Facility
  • Determines the strategic objectives of the Facility in conjunction with the Management Advisory Committee
  • Identifies/responds to key issues impacting resident care/service delivery
  • Represents the Facility across the network to external organizations/community or other groups that are partners
  • Oversees all reports and statements from Extendicare in order to make recommendations to Extendicare and the Management Advisory Committee
  • Chairs the Management Advisory Committee
  • Reports to Extendicare and the Management Advisory Committee to make recommendations concerning the operational management of the Facility
  • Supports organizational strategies and initiatives for the development of a motivated, cohesive and highly functioning team of interdisciplinary health care professionals and support staff across the Facility
  • Responsible for overseeing an directing all operational matters (not employment or labour matters) within the Facility
  • Supports and directs Extendicare Facility Directors in ensuring they act in a responsive and timely manner regarding resident care, Facility management and service delivery; meets regularly with Extendicare Directors and encourages leadership development, utilizing effective strategies for change management
  • Values diversity in all Facility staff and residents and maintains a climate that attracts, keeps and motivates top quality people, ensuring the Facility policies/procedures are implemented to promote fairness and openness
  • Develops/communicates the vision of the Facility, care delivery models and facilitates ongoing refinement of such models
  • Involving, strategic planning for clinical priorities, utilization management, information management, organizational and clinical organization within the Facility
  • Develops and monitors short/long-term plans that are aligned and integrated with Facility goals; prepares appropriate business plan documents in support of short- and long-term planning initiatives
  • Monitors changing priorities, trends, legislative requirements and/or other internal/external emerging issues; analyzes the potential impact on Facility goals, priorities and activities; recommends and/or implementing appropriate strategies to achieve desired results
Qualifications
  • Completion of a Masters Degree program in Health Administration, Business Administration or a recognized equivalent required
  • Must have a Long-Term Care Administrator Certification
  • Ten years related progressive senior leadership experience
  • Six or more years related program/service experience required, including experience working in a senior leadership role
  • Experience working or managing and leading teams of staff and projects in a long-term care environment
  • Project management experience
  • Membership in a relevant professional association
  • Knowledge of Accreditation Process, Public Relations, Human Resources and Labour Relations Management, Marketing and Sales, Business and Finance Principles, Long Term Care Industry, Applicable Contractual & Legislative Requirements, CQI Principles, Project Management Principles, Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Extensive knowledge of the Health Care sector
  • Excellent change management skills with the ability to implement changes and embrace new challenges
  • Excellent leadership and motivational skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation and communications skills, including report writing and presentation skills
  • Excellent organizational and time management with the ability to work effectively in a high-pressure environment
  • Exercise initiative and good judgement with ability to multi-task
  • Ability to lead and manage a large clinical operation
  • Ability to perform duties in a professional and courteous manner and produce high quality work while meeting deadlines in accordance to UHN standards
  • Proposal development skills
  • Compliance with confidentiality requirements, knowledge of applicable legislative, UHN and/or departmental policies
  • Client service oriented with an understanding of and ability to effectively work in a highly multicultural environment with multiple diverse personalities and ability to appreciate that people with different opinions, backgrounds and characteristics bring richness to the challenge or situation at hand.
