Job Description


Reporting to the Dean of the Faculty of Computer Science, the Executive Director will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of DeepSense, including relationship management with key stakeholders, business development and implementation of policies to realize the mission of DeepSense. In addition, the Executive Director will be responsible for financial management and operations as well as manage a team of staff members.
Key Responsibilities

  • Work closely with industry, the DeepSense Council, and stakeholders to develop applied research programs and to execute a long-term strategy and vision for DeepSense.
  • Drive the company\'s financial planning: analyze and monitor finances to ensure all operations are within budget and secure additional funding for long term continuance
  • Create the financial and reporting infrastructure necessary to ensure regular reporting to all DeepSense Committees and ensure that quality, financial, and risk management controls are in compliance with funding partner requirements and with Dalhousie University regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Develop and recommend to the Council annual business plans and budgets that support DeepSense\'s long-term strategy.
  • Work with the Dalhousie\'s Industry Liaison and Innovation Office to develop appropriate policies, procedures and guidelines for the day-to-day management of DeepSense and the projects proceeding under its umbrella.
  • Recruit, develop, and lead an effective team that will work with other staff and third parties as required; foster a culture and work climate that is conducive to attracting and retaining high caliber talent.
Note

The successful applicant will be eligible for hybrid work (combination of in-person work and remote work) as agreed by all parties based on operational requirements and university guidelines.
Required Qualifications
  • Masters\'s degree in a related field with at least 5 years of progressive management experience in a related position.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Project Management and management capabilities in Operations, Programs, Human Resources, Finance, and Risk Analysis.
  • Proven track record of effective leadership ideally in applied research.
  • A keen interest in and understanding of key areas such as analytics, applied industrial research, ocean technology data products, artificial intelligence and related technologies.
  • Proven experience and expertise in working in a multi-stakeholder environment that includes industry, academia, and government
  • Strong track record in business development and partnership building
Assets
  • PhD in a related field.
