Your opportunity:

As Event Specialist, you will play a pivotal role in the strategic conception, implementation and evaluation of key, high quality events organized by the Temerty Faculty of Medicine\xe2\x80\x99s Office of Advancement. Events will include those related to donor recognition and cultivation, fundraising and alumni engagement. Working closely with internal and external stakeholders, you will act as a project manager to anticipate event needs, discern work priorities, meet deadlines with minimal supervision and ensure a consistent delivery of exceptional and seamless event services. Acting as an ambassador for the Temerty Faculty of Medicine and the University of Toronto, a core area of focus willalso be to provide excellent event and sponsorship related service and to develop and manage important relationships with alumni, donors, volunteers, students and faculty members in a meaningful, professional and diplomatic manner. You must be a highly organized, collaborative team player who understands the interconnectedness of all Advancement functions and is committed to the ongoing success of the Temerty Faculty of Medicine.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Conceptualizing, organizing, overseeing and collaborating with members of the Advancement team on the development of innovative events for stakeholders (e.g. alumni, donors, prospective donors)
  • Leading the oversight, planning and execution of the Faculty of Medicine\xe2\x80\x99s signature events, ensuring proper post-event evaluation and analysis
  • Developing an annual Business Plan for the events portfolio, anticipating upcoming event needs and improvements, as well as monitoring accounts, setting goals for, identifying and ensuring the capture of, event metrics for the portfolio
  • Planning and estimating financial resources for events and consistently monitoring accounts to ensure events are delivered on-budget
  • Evaluating proposed events and providing recommendations to the Director, Alumni Relations, Directors of Development, and the Executive Director, Advancement on the effectiveness and impact of proposed events and activities
  • Writing and coordinating briefing materials, and ensuring the development of high-quality pieces like speeches, promotional or commemorative materials and press releases
  • Directing the work of volunteers and the Alumni & Events Coordinator who is responsible for the deployment and management of key events, alumni relations communications and guest registration

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor\'s Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience
  • Minimum five (5) years of full-cycle event management experience
  • Demonstrated experience conducting client needs assessments to conceptualize, implement, and evaluate in-person and virtual events
  • Demonstrated experience tracking and conducting post-event evaluations and analysis
  • Experience supervising and directing the activities and workflow of staff
  • Project management experience required, including developing, monitoring, and tracking project milestones and deliverables
  • Experience planning and estimating financial resources required for programs and projects, as well as monitoring and tracking expenses
  • Experience independently developing communications (briefing and promotional materials, speeches, meeting minutes and press releases)
  • Experience building and strengthening relationships with principal gift donors, senior volunteers, government officials and hospital partners of strategic importance; knowledge of the Faculty of Medicine and its community partners
  • Experience supervising unionized staff
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite
  • Superior communication skills (oral and written)
  • Ability to work in a fast paced and results oriented environment
  • Proven ability to motivate others, i.e. volunteers, team members, donors
  • Strong team player who values collaboration
  • Strong organizational, analytical and relationship building skills

USW Pay Band 12 - $71,842 with an annual step progression to a maximum of $91,875. Pay scale and job class assignment is subject to determination pursuant to the Job Evaluation/Pay Equity Maintenance Protocol.
