Sentinelles Petitcodiac Riverkeeper (SPR) is a not-for-profit organization. Our main objective is to restore the ecological health of the Petitcodiac and Memramcook River watersheds, including the Shepody Bay Estuary, located in southeastern New Brunswick. We play the role of investigator, scientist, educator, and advocate. We protect and defend our rivers by educating the public, organizing community events, gathering input through public dialogues, responding to citizen pollution complaints, and using existing laws to bring polluters to justice. We act as a public voice for our waterways, protecting our right to clean water and healthy watersheds. Role and responsibilities: We are seeking two Environmental Program Coordinators to plan, coordinate, and deliver educational programming for youth and adults in the Petitcodiac Watershed. The role will include office work (planning, communicating with partners, suggestions for external communications, updating our website, etc), and outdoor work (presenting to the public).

  • Deliver guided tours of the Petitcodiac River on public trails. Tours communicate the importance of the history, ecology, and restoration of the River.
  • Deliver educational workshops using lesson plans that are adapted for different age groups
  • Develop educational materials around urban stewardship activities to add to our inventory of education materials
  • Work with a team and partners to develop and implement a plan for 2023 outreach activities.
  • Communicating with community stakeholders including community groups, nonprofits, local government, businesses, and other stakeholders.

  • Record event metrics to share with the board of directors, funders, and the public
  • Take photos to contribute towards social media posts
  • Track inventory and resources needed for events
  • Develop surveys, and organize results to share with team members and funders
Skills and experience:
  • Knowledge or enthusiasm towards environmental stewardship
  • Customer service or comfortable speaking in front of groups
  • Experience in event planning
  • Ability to work independently and communicate effectively with team members
  • Comfortable speaking in English and French (asset)
  • Ability to commute to different locations along the Petitcodiac River (asset)
Flexibility to work from home or office, some in-person work is required to give tours outside. This position is made possible through Canada Summer Jobs funding, and applicants must be eligible for Canada Summer Jobs funding for this role. Wage: $18.65/hr - $21/hr for at 35 hours per week. Possibility of extension. Typically, Monday to Friday, including some evenings and occasional weekends. Anticipated start date is end of May or early June.
