We are currently seeking an Environmental Engineer to lead our Greenhouse Gas/Sustainability team in Western Canada. The successful candidate will lead a team providing Greenhouse Gas (GHG) verification, quantification and/or reporting projects under Alberta Technology Innovation and Emissions Reduction (TIER) Regulation, British Columbia GHG reporting regulation, Saskatchewan GHG regulation, Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), Canadian Climate Lens Assessment program, and other required and GHG reporting programs.

Your Role:

Act as Project Manager and verification lead for clients in the conventional oil and gas, oil sands, mining, power generation, chemical manufacturing, refinery, and upgrader sectors * Verifying, identifying, and checking raw data against data used in quantification

  • Conducting site visits to verify emission sources, interview operators, and review supporting documents
  • Ensuring quantification methods used are appropriate and correct
  • Assessing that the data management systems and control procedures are sufficient and appropriate
  • Evaluating that GHG reports are prepared in accordance with the program criteria, such as TIER
  • Preparing verification reports
  • Support the team in preparing technical proposals
  • Managing work schedules and controlling budgets
  • Working within a multi-disciplinary team
  • Managing subconsultants
  • Mentoring junior team members
  • Liaising with regulatory authorities, landowners, and other third parties
  • Travel to project sites across Western and Northern Canada
Qualifications:

Must have an undergraduate or graduate degree in engineering and be registered to practice in Alberta (APEGA)

Must meet the qualification requirements for lead verifier outlined in Alberta Environment and Parks\xe2\x80\x99 Standard for Validation, Verification and Audit (version 5.1), including but not limited to ISO 14064-3 training, a minimum 4 years\xe2\x80\x99 experience in verifying emission offsets or providing verification

Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience in a related field, preference will be given to candidates with environmental consulting experience

Experience in GHG quantification methodologies, especially Alberta Quantification Methodology (AQM) and Western Climate Initiative (WCI)

Knowledge of Alberta TIER reporting regulation, including large emitters and aggregated conventional oil and gas facilities

Knowledge of production processes and emission sources for gas processing plants, oil sands mining, in-situ oil sands

Knowledge of environmental economics and administrative approaches, such as cap and trade system and carbon tax system for emission controls

Experience in thermodynamics, knowledge of steam energy calculation

Ability to work independently and within a team

Excellent communication and organizational skills

Additional Information
