Airswift is working with one of our major clients to find an Environmental Advisor to join their team on a multiyear contract in St. John's, NL. This person will be responsible for ensuring that the project is constructed in an environmentally responsible manner and in compliance with all applicable environmental legislation. Will also confirm that the project has all regulatory approvals in place prior to each work scope commencing.

Responsibilities:

  • Support and provide advice to the construction, dredging, marine and subsea teams. The position supports the consultation and liaison with various regulatory agencies at both the federal and provincial levels including the C-NLOPB.
  • This position verifies the contractor's regulatory compliance and environmental performance goals.
  • Conduct regulatory compliance gap assessments. audits and inspections using the company-based compliance verification tools.
  • Prepare permit applications and environmental protection plans.
  • Conduct and/or review quality of environmental incident investigations.
  • Coach and mentor contractor reps in local environmental regulations.
  • Participate in hazard and risk assessments.
Qualifications:
  • A degree in environmental engineering, environmental science, or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years related experience, or an equivalent combination of education (e.g., advanced degree) and experience.
  • Thorough understanding of environmental legislation and regulations. This includes but is not limited to Canadian Environmental Protection Act, Fisheries Act, Canada Shipping Act, Newfoundland and Labrador Provincial Environmental Protection Act, and C-NLOPB Drilling and Production Regulations.
  • Thorough understanding of C-NLOPB environmental guidelines.
  • Understanding of Management Systems and ability to work within the requirements of the management system.
  • Knowledge of chemical management and WHMIS.
  • Possess excellent computer skills and proficient with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
