Reports to Principal Architect

Purpose of the role The Enterprise Architect (Data) will report to the Principal Architect and will be involved in developing, extending and refining the data architecture and strategy through effective architecture road maps and plans, in context of the overall Enterprise Architecture. They will develop models that describe the organization\'s current state and recommendations for future state, providing architectural direction through to execution via TOGAF related artifacts. They will also provide comprehensive recommendations and direction through proficient understanding of data, databases, analytics, business intelligence, machine learning / AI and associated systems, together with definition of standards and governance to optimize IT operations.

This is a full time remote role based in Ontario.

Core Responsibilities

Architecture Definition

  • Ensure the completeness (fitness for purpose) of the architecture.
  • Capture and evaluate key functional requirements of data flows, data structures (including data models), databases and data applications related to analytics, business intelligence, AI and machine learning.
  • Work within TOGAF based Enterprise Architecture framework, governance and processes appropriate for LifeLabs enterprise data environment and Data as a Service, together with SaaS environments.
  • Concentrate on the elements that can add significant value to the organization without being too detail orientated in areas that add little value.
Strategy and Roadmaps
  • A visionary for Information Technology
  • Help establish and maintain the Enterprise Architecture Roadmap and associated strategic technology artifacts for the IT systems, with a focus to support LifeLabs\' data and related disciplines (such as analytics, business intelligence and AI) and ensure they are aligned with the strategic organization plans.
  • Evangelize and champion benefits of Architecture to business and technical audiences.
  • Validate, expand and refine the architecture models
Collaboration
  • Collaborate with a high performance team of IT and Enterprise Architects.
  • Collaborate with units within IT and provide a consensus-based enterprise solution that is scalable, adaptable and synchronized with the ever-changing business needs.
  • Work with various business and IT stakeholders to demonstrate and show business value of enterprise-wide data management, associated services and new strategic platforms being considered
Policies and Standards
  • Help develop and maintain policies, standards and guidelines that facilitate the selection, development, implementation and use of information technologies within the enterprise.
  • Ensure new and existing program/project architecture are compliant with IT standards, policies and architectural plans.
Documentation
  • Document the architecture and related roadmaps and keep up-to-date as part of the architecture lifecycle.
  • Maintain a list of corporate data related assets and the key facets of these items, such as end-of-life, business fit, dependencies, etc.
Minimum Qualification and Skills
  • University degree relevant to Information Technology, or equivalent experience
  • 10+ years of general Information Technology experience
  • 7-10 years Technology Architecture experience
  • Must have TOGAF certification
  • Must have Strong knowledge of design and architectural patterns, IT standards and policies
  • Strong experience of data modelling and structured approaches to database development
  • Strong knowledge of cloud solutions (SaaS/Paas/IaaS) with a focus on data related solutions and the leveraging of data services and APIs in those environments
  • Knowledge of data consumers in the analytics, business intelligence, AI and machine learning spaces
  • Varied knowledge of COTS applications, with a focus in the data space
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Ability to influence decision makers, peers and technical resources in field of practice
