The Opportunity

The Director, Enterprise Architect is responsible for leading the Group Function architecture initiatives for architectural design, issues and solutions consideration regarding data and analytics capabilities within the Azure EDL 2.0 ecosystem; apply industry best practices to create scalable and secure solution that have superior technical performance; design systems to support flow of data through the organization, ensures IT and Data strategy alignment with its business goals. The role will collaborate with other Manulife Segment Architects, Engineers, and Business partners to define solutions for new projects and ongoing architecture modifications that may be required for ongoing optimization of the overall EDL 2.0 ecosystem. The role reports to the AVP, Chief Architect, Global Data Technology.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the architecture roadmap for the Global Data and Group Function EDL 2.0 ecosystem including patterns development, end-to-end data pipelines, data storage and consumption
  • Establish and maintain architecture principles, standards, blueprints, lead digital transformation, developing data technology architecture frameworks, decommissioning or transforming legacy applications, data migration, security, privacy, etc.
  • Strategize multi-year roadmaps to enable business growth, ensure compliance and reduce the complexity of key business and IT processes. Assess applications by business capability and technical fit
  • Produce target state architecture, perform ongoing assessment and gap analysis, collaborate with the Segment Data Office Architecture team to move the organization toward the target architecture
  • Drive best practice implementation of data pipeline design (ingestion/curation), data store and consumer facing data structures
  • Collaborate with the Segment Data Offices to define and evolve the EDL 2.0 data strategy as required to meet Global Data Technology business strategy and evolving business needs
  • Define and lead architecture discussion for new data initiatives, including analyze and understand business need, mapping the need to required data and sources, define how the sources will be integrated with EDL 2.0 ecosystem, and finally how the data, reporting and analytics solution will be built within the EDL 2.0 system to meet the business objective
  • Work closely with Business partners, Group Function Data Delivery Leads to ensure solution architecture for new initiatives aligns with Global Data Architecture strategy and practices
  • Ensure developed solution meets Global Data Technology standards including adhering to Application Performance Management (APM) standards and meets Risk and Audit controls
  • Find opportunities for continuous improvement, advise on enterprise architecture landscape, including data, technology, infrastructure, security, and integration

What we are looking for
  • 15+ years of professional experience in design and development of data solutions including data warehouses, data lakes, lake houses, business intelligence and analytics solutions.
  • Experience in hands-on solution delivery on Microsoft Azure Data PaaS stack (Azure Data Factory, Azure Databricks, ADLS, Synapse SQL Pool, Azure ML, Power BI)
  • Expert level understanding of Azure Data Lake, Azure SQL databases, Azure Data Factory and Azure Synapse, Databricks and Azure ML.
  • Hands-on experience on designing and developing data pipeline/ETL processes and automation in Azure data factory, Azure Databricks and PySpark.
  • Experience with delivery of Business Intelligence/Reporting and Analytics solutions (MLOps ecosystem)
  • Experience with the Hadoop ecosystem and toolset \xe2\x80\x93 HDFS, MapReduce, Spark, Python, Scala, Hive and Oozie.
  • Experience with DevSecOps practices and CI/CD tools such as GitHub and Jenkins
  • Deep understanding of business strategy and ability to craft software/platform/infrastructure architecture plans to support business outcomes
  • Evaluates and builds a network of third-party suppliers
  • Data modelling for large-scale systems and familiarity with electronic data standards (ACORD or equivalent)
  • Deep knowledge and experience in design and implementation of Enterprise Data Integration/Semantic/Information models patterns and frameworks
  • Awareness of regulatory and compliance directives such as BCBS230, PIPEDA, GDPR, CCPA
  • Able to combine knowledge of field and the market, some perspective on customer requirements. Fit for purpose and usually refined quality
  • Collaborative attitude, willingness to work with team members; able to coach, participate in code reviews, share skills and methods
  • Good organizational and problem-solving abilities that enable you to manage through creative abrasion

Salary & Benefits

The annual base salary for this role is listed below.

Primary Location Toronto, Ontario

Salary range is expected to be between $105,070.00 CAD - $195,130.00 CAD
