Overview

As part of the Facilities Division for Pembina, the Unit provides Engineering, Project Development, Project Execution, and other Project Services in support of the following Business Units:

  • GBU – Gas Services Business Unit
  • NBU – NGL Services Business Unit
  • VMLP– Veresen Midstream
  • VBU – New Ventures Business Unit
Reporting to the Sr. Manager, Engineering & Development, this individual will be an experienced working Manager that will support growth opportunities across Pembina’s associated facilities and projects, Management of Pembina’s Permit to Practice, Professional Practice Management Plan (PPMP), Community of Practice as well as the associated Discipline Engineering group (Technical SMEs).
Summary of Responsibilities

Responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
  • Lead an integrated team consisting of development, technical, and functional partners to support opportunities related to Project Development, Execution and the Practice of Engineering;
  • The interdisciplinary team will be working on Facilities Projects ranging from Operations Engineering support up to multi-Billion-dollar Mega Projects. This specific role will be focused on the delivery of Engineering practice, Discipline Engineering support to Pembina’s overall Permit to Practice as well as technical project support within the Facilities Division;
  • The role is engaged throughout the development of projects from Ideation through turnover of projects to Operations with interfaces to all other project and engineering support areas of Pembina including Operations Support. An overall understanding of the project execution process is required to be effective;
  • Identify and evaluate technical alternatives to address complex business opportunities and optimize assets to maximize value for Pembina;
  • Day-to-day maintenance of the Permit to Practice and PPMP (Professional Practice Management Plan);
  • Manage the lists of Responsible Members, Responsible Registrants and Holders of Certificates of Authorization throughout Pembina;
  • Interface with Services Groups in the management and implementation of standards and tools necessary for Pembina’s Engineering programs and participate in the generation of Engineering and project requirements;
  • Interface with the Engineering Regulatory bodies (APEGA, EGBC, APEGS, etc) for matters that includes but not limited to support for regulatory audits and corrective actions, reviews and comments to proposed regulation/standards/guides, clarification and interpretation of regulatory requirements, etc;
  • Prepare communications to the Community of Practice within Pembina on updates to standards of practice;
  • Support approvals from multiple key partners and senior leadership (sponsors and gatekeepers) as part of gate keeping through various Stage Gates;
  • Assess the impact of proposed changes throughout the lifecycle of the projects;
  • Collaborate with cross functional teams (CFTs) on value creation and debottlenecking opportunities of assets;
  • Assess risks and opportunities using probability analysis and to quantify benefits to projects and the business;
  • Accountable for the support of projects being delivered by the Facilities Division and the management of engineering practice within the organization; and
  • Provide and support an Inclusive and Diverse workplace.

Qualifications
  • A Professional Engineer or equivalent professional status (registration from multiple jurisdictions would be an asset – Alta, BC, Sask, US);
  • 15 + years relevant experience, including project development, engineering evaluation, continuous improvement and optimization of assets;
  • A Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Chemical, Mechanical, Civil), or related technical discipline;
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite (Excel, PowerPoint);
  • Strong business acumen with the ability to translate projects from economics perspective into technical support requirements;
  • Non-authoritative leadership skills with the ability to influence effectively;
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the proven ability to deliver messaging suitable for senior management and multi-discipline teams;
  • Strong attention to detail and a self-starter with a continuous improvement mindset;
  • Driven, results-oriented individual who naturally takes responsibility for setting the standard and achieving results;
  • Self-directed and capable of working within a continuously changing environment;
  • Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills that enables you to build strong, positive relationships with diverse groups;

This position is considered “Safety Sensitive” so will require Pre-Employment Drug & Alcohol Testing. You may also be required to provide a Driver’s Abstract.

The successful candidate must live within 100 km of Calgary, AB.
