About the role
As an Engineering Manager, you will work to ensure the success of your team by listening and acting on feedback, providing mentorship and career development, ensuring that the team systems and culture support consistent quality, productivity, and happiness. The day-to-day

  • Be a standard-bearer for culture who actively works towards building a cohesive team united by common engineering principles
  • Collaborate with your team to define and execute on the technical vision and strategy for your team
  • Be a key voice in challenging architectural and technical discussions, providing input based upon your deep knowledge and experience
  • Work with your team members to discover opportunities to improve quality and speed, using both quantitative and qualitative data as a guide
  • Coach and develop your team, providing them with feedback and helping them to grow in their careers
  • Be an organizational leader, defining and contributing to cross-team initiatives and vision
  • Work closely with product and design to produce a great product for our customers, including contributing to roadmap and solution design discussions
  • Recruit talented engineers that will thrive in the Rise engineering culture
About you
  • 2+ years of leading successful engineering teams
  • Deep technical knowledge, with the ability to expertly weigh in on key technical decisions
  • Adept with and enthusiastic about data-driven decision-making
  • Ability to think in systems and to make decisions iteratively
  • Passionate about developing teams
  • Focused on quality, both internal and external, and customer-oriented
  • Kind, empathetic, and pleasant to work with, with the ability to help mediate any interpersonal issues that may arise on your team
  • Driven and entrepreneurial: we're a fast-growing, scrappy startup, and we prefer candidates that are experienced working in a fast-paced environment
  • Willing to roll up your sleeves and do whatever needs to be done, including writing code when necessary
  • Bonus: Expert-level knowledge in Rails or Node.js
