Position: EfficiencyOne is looking for an Energy Manager (Engineer) who will be responsible for identifying energy efficiency measures and opportunities at Cape Breton Regional Municipality (CBRM) and preparing the business case for approval. Reporting to the Senior Energy Manager at EfficiencyOne. You will provide technical support related to energy management at Cape Breton Regional Municipality (CBRM) as well as work with CBRM\xe2\x80\x99s facilities staff, engineering, production departments, and management to promote energy efficiency throughout the organization and direct energy management activities. This role will require time on-site (Cape Breton) and remotely as needed. A snapshot of what you will be involved with:
  • Influences what the client should do based on investigating issues with the client, then presents a path forward & influences the client\xe2\x80\x99s priorities.
  • Allocate resources for the completion of outputs and their timely delivery.
  • Involved in Energy Management / Project Management activities on both a technical and organizational aspect for the assigned client.
  • Complete technical audits, recommend energy efficiency technologies, and prepare feasibility studies and business cases for approval.
  • Recommend energy projects and measures.
  • Develop an understanding of the mechanical and electrical systems within the organization.
  • Coordinate and administer project documentation, incentive applications, project development agreements, reports, and incentive applications.
  • Develop an understanding of the organization\xe2\x80\x99s budgetary framework, procurement policies, and contracts.
  • Determine external project resources and preferred suppliers to assist direct activities related to project proposals and implementation, i.e., suppliers, consultants, technical specifications, and cost.
  • Facilitate, support, and develop a strategic energy management plan with senior managers\' input.
  • Quarterly final reports and presentations to CBRM and EfficiencyOne outlining project status, energy management opportunities, and achievements to date.
  • Arrange staff awareness programs.
What Will Help You Succeed?
  • Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s Degree in Engineering (Electrical or Mechanical), Engineering Technologist Diploma, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Designation as a Certified Energy Manager (CEM), Certified Measurement and Verification Professional (CMVP), or Certified Project Management Professional (PMP) is considered an asset.
  • Five years of related experience in an energy-related role with experience developing and implementing energy management programs and/or energy savings projects.
  • Practical knowledge applicable to a manufacturing environment, including knowledge of energy efficiency and measures specific to production.
  • Demonstrate the ability to interpret electrical and mechanical plans and specifications for facilities.
  • Excellent analytical skills, written and oral communications skills; thrive in a fast-paced and results-oriented environment where problem-solving skills help meet tight deadlines.
  • Experience with and proficiency with all MS Office applications (including Teams)
  • A valid driver\xe2\x80\x99s license and access to a vehicle are required.

  • Meet with Senior Energy Manager and Services team
  • Develop a high-level energy projects execution plan for the first 180 days in your role as an Energy Manager
  • Be prepared to read! Energy Manager service manual, business program manuals, protocols on measurement and verification, energy auditing guidelines, example reports from Senior Energy Managers, and examples of other organizations\xe2\x80\x99 energy management plans. Ensuring you are familiar with both technical resources and reference material is critical to executing your short-term plan on-site.
In the first month, expect to:
  • Become familiar with the people and organizations within the participant organizations. Organizational awareness includes understanding people that influence projects and being familiar with the facilities and the processes, i.e., procurement, budget planning, etc.
  • Review ISO 50001 \xe2\x80\x93 Energy Management Systems and apply it to your present and future planning
  • Meet with EfficiencyOne Program Managers to better understand project incentives and program processes.
  • Meet with Senior Energy Manager to bounce ideas around on strategies and tactics that will increase your influence and impact on the account organization; and
  • Meet with the consultant network to explore their services that could be beneficial for your account.
In the first three months, expect to:
  • Establish monitoring, tracking, and reporting for your account. Critical for EfficiencyOne and for creating visibility within your accounts
  • On-site energy audits \xe2\x80\x93 identify technologies and efficiency solutions
  • Create business cases for projects working with contractors, consultants, and account staff
  • Build a master list of energy efficiency measures; and
  • Develop a framework for your account\xe2\x80\x99s Energy Management Plan, a living document. This plan is a roadmap for your work as an Energy Manager and the organizations on their path toward corporate / government environmental and economic targets.
