About Us:

Roots Private School is a co-educational private day school providing instruction to students from Grades 1 through 8. Roots Private School teachers are a strong team of professionals, many of whom are experts in the subjects they teach and have taught abroad in countries like England, Portugal, Italy, Spain, Ukraine, Moldova, Russia, and other European countries. Using their broad experience, our teachers give students their all, striving to create the best possible learning environment inside and outside the walls of the classroom, so that students may have the opportunities needed to strive for their maximum potential. Our program is taught in English. Our curriculum is based on the Ontario curriculum, however, we offer an enriched program in core subjects, such as Math and English.

Your Opportunity:

We are looking for a passionate Elementary School Teacher to join our team. An Elementary School Teacher develops ways to help students grow in the classroom by setting a great example and providing lessons that meet the needs of all students.

This position is a 10-month contract beginning at the start of the school year, from September until the end of June.

We are looking for a professional candidate who is passionate about teaching and is an excellent team player. The candidate will teach primary grades the core subjects: Math, English, and Science, and fulfill the additional duties of an elementary homeroom teacher. The right candidate will successfully guide students through all the units under the Ontario and Roots Private School curriculums. Attention to individual learning styles and tailoring your teaching style to meet the needs of individual children is an essential skill for this position.

You will work directly with students and with the Principal and Vice-Principals to ensure the success and development of your classroom. Roots will provide as much training and support as possible to ensure you have a smooth transition into our school environment.

Your Responsibilities:

Report to the Principal and Vice-Principals of Roots Private School Manage the classroom and create lesson plans that are within the bounds of the Roots Private School curriculum, which is 1-2 years ahead of the Ontario Curriculum in Math and English subjects Monitor each student's progress and create Individual Education Plans as needed Fulfill the additional duties of Homeroom Teacher, such as assisting students on field trips, school concerts, and meeting with parents Evaluate students on a regular basis and prepare grades and comments for first and second semester Report Cards Comply with and follow all Roots Private School Teaching Duties and Responsibilities and policies
Essential Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) 2+ years of experience teaching in an elementary school environment in Canada Expertise in subject matter and ability to create experiential learning opportunities Ability to work well with a team, communicating regularly throughout the school day as needed Passionate about creating a positive, inclusive, and vibrant learning environment Excellent communication skills in English both verbally and written
Assets (not required):

Background/experience in teaching Science Background/experience in teaching Math Residing withing 20-30 min. of driving from the school
We are only accepting local candidates who live in a reasonably close proximity to the school.

Job Types: Full-time, Fixed term contract
Contract length: 10 months

Pay: From $29.00 per hour
